1.  How many career changes, if any, have you had?2.  Where you happier with the change or regret it?3.  Did you make less or more money?4.  Did you stay with your career change and excel or try to go back to the original career? 4951

I haven't changed careers but I did recently change fields. It was a huge adjustment. Although the basics are the same and versatile, learning a completely new industry, terminology, procedures, corporate culture, etc. was quite an adjustment.

It was a better company, more money and an opportunity that was too good to pass up.

I have never once regretted it. Deep down, you know when it's time. You just have to shut your eyes, take a deep breath and jump. It is scary as $#it, but once you land, it's worth it, at least it was for me. 4951

I have had multiple careers and never regretted any moves in them I have made. Most of the were in my 20's and 30's. I have found in life that the more you are qualified and have experience in the better. Better chances to get jobs in the future. I am in my 40's now and made another career change recently. I am happy with it, Diversity makes life more interesting. 4951

I'm on my 5th professional job (part of my career journey). My 3rd job ended bc of a layoff, which is unfortunate bc I saw myself there long term (knew the path I wanted to take etc.).Every job has been an increase in salary, outside of job 4 due to different industry. It was a $5k decrease, but I made it up (and more) in salary and bonuses, over the 4.5 years I was there. This last jump brought me a 40% increase in salary. Every step has been very good for me, overall, so I'm happy with the direction I have taken. My career has changed / evolved. I started as a Marketing Coordinator/Member Coordinator for a non-profit, went on to do PR for a large health system for 8 years, then moved into Proposal Writing for a Big 3, then proposal writing for an international bank, and now (same position) for an international IT hardware company. I love the work that I do; I love constantly learning and working with new teams all over the globe, and learning new Services and Industries. I don't see me here long-term, though, as there is no other higher position(outside of boss) and there are people there longer than I who would get the position first. I see myself here 5 years, as long as I survive Workforce Reductions. 4951

Started in O&G and left it many years ago. Did a couple other things that mostly worked out and then got sucked back in.
This stretch has been over 20 years and it has been good to me. I have been fortunate to work for a company that has been successful and largely unaffected by the swing in crude pricing. 4951

As soon as the kids are on their own, that's my plan.  I feel I need to maintain stability for them.  Will almost certainly be a reduction in salary as it will, almost certainly, be out of my current field of work.   4951

@BooBear: Moving from love seat to sofa, although is a "position" change, it doesn't count as a career move. Let's be real... 4951

I have worked more than 15 years in the public safety field and worked for various organizations in the past. I used to work patrol in California and I knew I wanted to get into more of intelligence and investigations so I left my last position in California and moved to Houston in 2003 working for my current employer. I have not regretted my decision at this time. 4951

If the A holes where you work at now are getting on your nerves, don't worry they will also be at your new job, they go by different names, you just will not know who they are for a short period of time........they will introduce themselves. 4951

@tguid18: A holes are everywhere regardless. Sometimes your friends at work will back stab you which I have seen.

Best way to get along at a new job is to disguise yourself as a moronic booger eating spaz, that can do your job, barely.when the regime that is place see's this you will be deemed a non-threat.If you choose to go in and be looked at as a threat, the F sticks will come out, and you don't want to be caught on the snotty  end of that thing. 4951
