I shop online at ebags. After traveling a lot with some bring overseas, I now carry a backpack. Everything I need fits in it and it travels well. Large pieces are not practical to me anymore. They are difficult to maneuver on cobblestone streets and up and down stairs at train stations abroad. Plus they don't fit in the luggage compartment on a train overseas. 4951

As a former weekly traveler, Swiss Gear is by far my favorite.  Available at Target.  Was very popular with my co workers as well.  4951

Only thing worth spending money on is a good carry on. The airlines knock the snot out of anything you check. Good stuff has only a slightly longer life.
TJMaxx/Home Goods has a decent selection. 4951

@ET:

True. $70 is my max to spend. Never check my bag.

I am going to invest in some packing cubes. I bought a couple and really liked them. I have been using large zip lock bags as packing cubes and they work too.

I also carry one of those bags you can squeeze the air out of to make things smaller, just in case I buy something bulky like a sweatshirt on my trip. 4951

Hubby loves the High Sierra bags. His most recent is the AT6.

One of the features he likes most is having a separate compartment he can put dress clothes.

When we travel together, we use two of the same bag. We pack each bag with half of each person's stuff. One in top section and other's in the bottom section. Great in case of a delayed bag. 4951

DH found a nice 32" Samsonite for $99 at Burlington Coat Factory.  He needed a big one to carry some medical equipment along with his clothes, shoes, etc.  4951

It's been 45 years since I haven't had at least one bag packed. I have found Target and Sears to have vapid quality bags for not a lot of money.
Expensive luggage doesn't seem to hold up any better than the above, and for certain, luggage handlers do not treat expenses luggage better than the less expensive.
Don't waste money...just buy tough bags. 4951

Has anyone used the packing cubes. They are a little pricey. Looking for some to try that aren't too expensive. 4951

@CC1974:

In addition to the cubes, check out the Pack It bags by Eagle Creek.

I love the cubes but be careful you don't weigh down your suitcase with too many cubes though! Buy different colors for different types of items. 4951

@Annie:
Thanks so much. I will check out the Eagle Creek sacks. Do you put your clothes in them or just toiletries?

My wife and I decided to make an investment in our luggage. We had purchased a 5 piece set for 99.00 and it quickly fell apart. We were regularly traveling between SE Asia and the US so on one of our trips back home we purchased some Briggs and Riley (http://www.briggs-riley.com) pieces. Definitely on the expensive side but their warranty is easy to use. We've had a couple of pieces damaged in transit and they were repaired and returned in a few weeks.

We also have used a few of the cubes but had more success with the garment folders.

If you're traveling regularly, I would suggest the investment into quality luggage with a good warranty.

Whatever the choice, may you have many adventures in your travels. 4951
