Scientists were trying to find out if a praying mantis can actually see in 3D. They had to design a set of 3D glasses to test their theory out. A praying Mantis can't see red, so they had to use green/blue instead of the old stand by red/blue.Turns out they can see in 3D. 4951

@sweetie:  Exactly what I was thinking. Now if it is privately funding, then let your freak flag fly and live loud and proud.  Just don't expect me to pay for crap like that.

The research team from Newcastle University in the United Kingdom published their findings in the journal Scientific Results.The was tested by providing the insects images on a bright background that resembled the shape of the animal's prey. Three-dimensional versions of the images caused the mantises to strike out at them, because it seemed like the shapes were moving toward them. Two-dimensional images did not produce this response. 4951

I need a Federal Grant to study if dog flatulence smells bad, and if so, why.  About $5M should cover it. 4951

I'm sure this is all the name of learning more about the eyes of other species so that more can be done to help humans who have lost their sight. Learning more about insects also helps with pest control. If this leads to way to make sure i never have to see another palmetto bug, I'm all for it. 4951

@deltadawn:

Actually they said it was for robotics, but I am sure that would benefit people eventually.

My brother use to work for Gillette.  And he said they pay people to come in and smell under arm pits to test deodorant.  Now that an interesting job.   4951
