My folks raised them, and we ate them & rabbit often.
@deltadawn: Rabbit is also great. We didn't raise them, but there were plenty of cottontails on my parents property. My dad and I made box traps to catch them. My dad would buy a calf that had been weaned and we would feed and let it graze until it was big enough to butcher. He also raised a bunch of ducks. He preferred ducks over chickens. My dad would also buy a pig occasionally to butcher. He was not a butcher by trade, but when he was growing up, there were several uncles and cousins who were butchers and taught him how. There was a huge oak tree behind his parents house and they anchored an iron ring into it about 9 feet off the ground. Whenever anyone had a cow or pig to butcher, they used that ring to hang the carcass from. All the neighbors helped out and they would get some of the meat for their help.  That old oak tree died and by the time I thought about that iron ring, someone had already gotten it.
