Good morning all,

Does your company that you work for do anything special for the birthday person or do you as a group do something for them?

If it is your department as a group doing something, what do you typically do and how much on average is per person? Do you pick the treat for the birthday person or allow them to?

Advice and thoughts needed.

Thanks Emoticon 4951

Work does nothing but coworkers are free to bring in something. We either do homemade or grocery store cake at lunch or the end of one of our meetings.

One of the female attorneys took it upon herself to be the official birthday party or shower coordinator. She asked for donation but it was not mandatory that you give. She would go out & buy all the goodies. Like  Annie said a cake from one of the grocery stores, along with chips & salsa, ice cream & tea. It was held in a conference room with a great view of I45, Pierce elevated to be exact. In the beginning only her friends had parties given in their honor, **** the boss off and some people felt slighted so then it was changed to one party a month. By the time I left it was a party every quarter. But she made all the decisions on the menu. I stopped going to them. 4951

2 of my jobs had "Cake Day" once a month to celebrate everyone's b-day for that month. One place was a big CPA firm that went all out on the cakes - 2 large beautiful cakes that looked very expensive - but they also had well over 100 employees to feed. The other job had a lady that loves to make cakes working there so she just made one or 2 homemade cakes for everyone each month. At my last job we only had 6 people in our office so on the persons b-day we would order lunch and everyone chipped in to pay for the b-day persons lunch and the office manager picked up cupcakes. In each office, though, people close to the co-worker with the b-day would do a little something to decorate their desk on their actual b-day. 4951

For our young folks that care about that kind of thing, we would often pick up a cake or cookies at lunch and have it as a department (our group is about 10).  For everyone over 30, nobody cares, including the birthday person... 4951

In our office, we as a group only acknowledge birthdays for the people we like and we'll buy a cake and take 'em out to lunch to the restaurant of their choosing. Ha! 4951

We do a monthly celebration for all bdays that month. We typically go out to lunch together - but apparently this last time it was sent out to vote: lunch or happy hour. The group, supposedly, chose happy hour (4-5:30p). I'm not going bc I have young kids and evenings are crazy enough without making my commute 90 minutes to get home during rush hour (from the Tombel area). 4951

I guess since they walk in and do not say Good Morning I cannot expect them to acknowledge a birthday...
