@Cornellbalker:
Better get your TWIC card too. You can save money if you do the hazmat & TWIC background/ fingerprints at the same time. They are the same background check. Also, get a class A don't waste your time on a class b.

Depending on what you want to do there is a host of classes you can take. Most companies will pay for them if they hire you, but a TWIC is a must. It is annoying and time consuming so companies don't want to deal with getting you one although they want you to have it. Not sure what jobs you are looking at but $180 is a sailing job, and a high end one at that. You are probably looking more around $75k. 4951

I used to work for a cargo company in the airport and many of the drivers that would drop off cargo had their TWIC card and of course some were license to transport hazmat or what we called dangerous goods. But I agree with @sooner34, get your class A that way you don't have to worry if whatever you have to transport exceeds the weight limit. Having all these qualifications opens allot more doors for cdl positions. Good luck! 4951

Good luck. That was my first job in the Guard, driving heavy equipment and trucks. Made me an excellent driver. The school I went to for the Army was 2 weeks and not that easy. Had to backup a flatbed in a circle and on to a ramp with no power steering lol! Must have failed 10 times before I passed. 4951
