yes, the majority rules but that does not negate the minorities. thus we can foster good wishes for those who are jewish or buddhist or shinto or muslim or animist or even episcopalian without enmity. 4951

@ProblemAgain: Yes it does, otherwise they would have their own Federal Holiday. They do not. If they work for the Government they would be charged a day of leave if they wanted to observe their religious holiday. I'm not religious either, these are the facts of the matter. Christians get the day off for Christmas.

@beastmode: it does NOT negate the rights of those of other faiths. it is myopic to believe that it does. to REALLY adhere to the spirit of the constitution, the federal holiday should be termed something other than christmas but most people really don't give a rats *** what it is calledyou can add to that the fact that  good citizens of different faiths volunteer every year to work the shifts of christians to allow the christians to have christmas with their families. if in doubt, read the papers or watch the news. the stories are there every year.

@ProblemAgain: That's the thing, it is not deemed something else. It's called Christmas. If someone wants to celebrate their religious holiday on that day they should since their holiday won't be recognized, only Jesus's birthday is given its own holiday. Again , I'm not religious but this is the fact of the matter.

hmmm seems to be some hostility regarding the celebration of the birth of the Prince of Peace, the symbol of God's love for all mankind. i must be confused. i didn't know it was a competition or that anyone who is not a declared christian has to work that day. guess that means we should beat the samaritan's *** since he is different. 4951

I was walking across a bridge one day, and I saw a man standing on
the edge, about to jump. I ran over and said: "Stop. Don't do it."
"Why shouldn't I?" he asked.
"Well, there's so much to live for!"
"Like what?"
"Are you religious?"
He said: "Yes."
I said: "Me too. Are you Christian or Buddhist?"
"Christian."
"Me too. Are you Catholic or Protestant?"
"Protestant."
"Me too. Are you Episcopalian or Baptist?"
"Baptist."
"Wow. Me too. Are you Baptist Church of God or Baptist Church of the Lord?"
"Baptist Church of God."
"Me too. Are you original Baptist Church of God, or are you Reformed Baptist Church of God?"
"Reformed Baptist Church of God."
"Me too. Are you Reformed Baptist Church of God, Reformation of 1879, or Reformed Baptist Church of God, Reformation of 1915?"
He said: "Reformed Baptist Church of God, Reformation of 1915."
I said: "Die, heretic scum," and pushed him off. 4951

@beastmode:  Christmas is defined as a day to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ.  I honor other celebrations that occur at the same time. Let's not get too technical here.  According to bible researchers, Jesus was NOT born on or near Dec 25.  He was likely born in the spring or early summer.  Christians had to compete with pre-established Pagan and Roman (Saturnalia)  holidays in December so they decided to celebrate Jesus' birthday on Dec 25.  Christians also adopted MANY traditions of other religions for Christmas to make the conversion to Christianity easier.  Almost all of the typical Christmas traditions are directly from, or based on, traditions from other religions.
