Just passed some road kill on Kingwood drive before you get to Green Oak and it looked like a mountain lion, surely not. 4951

A few weeks ago I swear I saw a HUGE cat and asked my husband if mountain lions were possible around here. He looked at me like I was crazy. We had them all over where I went to college, to which he replied "there was a.freakimg mountain by your college! When was the last time you saw a mountain around here?!" Either way, it was an abnormally emmense sized cat... 4951

Bigfoot, loch ness, chupacabra are possible. Maybe even a leprechaun. But no way a mountain lion.

I know there are a few that hangout around Lake Isabel. It's very possible for one to wonder into Kingwood. 4951

There are mountain lions and bobcats in Sam Houston NF and the surrounding areas. It is possible they may come over here as there are plenty of food source like our pets. I usually see mountain lions in Edwards Plateau and Hill Country but I did see one at night in Polk County Texas which is north of Livingston. 4951

@HollyHobby: Poor bobcat. Cougar, panther, moutain lion, whatever you call them, we keep moving in on their territory, so we have to expect that they may try to reclaim some of it.

Cougars are all over the state of Texas. That is why the University of Houston picked the Cougar as its mascot. Lots of them in East Texas, but I would bet the aforementioned road kill is a big bobcat. 4951

@chilladahun: There was one killed by a vehicle a few years ago outside of Liberty and report of something taking down a 200lb wild hog and dragging it a few hundred yards across a field near Shepherd year before last.  They were definitely indigenous to the area at one point and their population has been making a steady comeback throughout the US.  With the Sam Houston, Davy Crockett, Angelina, Sabine, and Kisatchie National Forests tying into the Big Thicket National Preserve and Trinity River National Wildlife Refuge all sort of right in our northern back yard it is very possible to have a sighting here.  Take a look at a satellite map and you'll see that it's pretty much woods from here up through Tyler, over to Monroe, all the way up into Missouri.  There have been dozens of confirmed sightings in the ArkLaTex area and if the population is increasing, it's not a stretch to think that a young male could make his way to our area trying to establish his range.

@buffaloglenn: Completely untrue. The reason a,cougar was picked is well documented and it has nothing to do with a cougar in Texas.

@deltadawn:

Cougar, panther and mountain lion are the same animal..different names comes from different areas. I think most will only call it a panther if it's black but still the same. A bobcat is a different animal. A bobcat only gets to be about 20-30lbs, twice the size of a house cat with the short tail and pointy ears. Cougar is twice the size of that. No reason to believe they couldn't be here. 4951

@allymansfield: mountain lion is just a name. florida had cougars or mountain lions as well and the highest point in florida is only 345 feet above sea level. and remember the Clancy sisters: Hope was hopeless, Charity was uncharitable, and Faith was unfaithful....

@monyhoney: Yes, its still there. I have no idea what kind of animal it is. It isn't the coloring that I would have expected if it were a bobcat. To me, driving by fairly swiftly, it just looked like a large dog.
