We finally switched over to artificial due to allergies and we just got tired of all the pine needles with a real one. We got a really nice 8ft one back when Kmart in Humble was having their going out of business sale. How many years ago was that? Like 14 or 15 years ago???? But it's a really nice full tree with lots of branches and I made a small platform to put it on. It needed to be a bit higher to get presents under it, you can always trim a real tree but it doesn't work to well trimming branches on a fake tree. And we have it in a room with a cathedral ceiling so being 9 ft tall or so works fine. We also have a lot of artificial garland that we string on railings on the stair and landing. I'm old enough to remember an aunt who had one of those aluminum trees that you couldn't string lights on but had to put a spotlight in front with a colored gel wheel spinning slowly. It was very 60's.What do you put up? 4951

I never did a real one until I married my DH.  I still have a fake one that is older than me.  4951

Artificial pre-lit tree, then we burn a pine scented candle to add the effect. Still pretty but easy on the allergies. 4951

We do artificial and hang these pine scented sticks on them to get the full effect. 4951

Always real! I've never owned a artificial. No tree this year, house is too small & we have absolutely no place to put one. 4951

I want an artificial tree as it was the norm back in England but for some reason they prices over here are insane, plus DW is adamant that it be a more realistic looking one but we will never getting a Balsam Hill tree!!!So it looks like I am stuck with the hassle of a real tree, all the lugging it around, positioning it in the stand right, stringing all the lights, remembering to water it, cleaning up needles, I don't get anything out of the tree that makes it worth that! 4951

@CartmanUK35: I am sure your kids appreciate it and like the tree.

No tree...  Dog and cats don't care and just not in the spirit to decorate it myself...   4951

We use to always buy the biggest flocked tree that would fit in den. We loved that snow look. Dds allergies got too bad so we bought artificial one, prelit , lots of branches. This is 4 th year we put it up. We put one in the living room too, but it's pink, prelit. It's such a pretty tree. 4951

Real ones here, dudes...  We actually purchased a Fordman Christmas Tree earlier today from Lowes, just got finished decorating it not that long ago, and it is absolutely lovely!  I'll have to redo the lights tomorrow though, as I put all of the blinking lights on the bottom....  (Stoner move!)       Oh, and his name is Norman....                                                                                               Stormin' Norman, our beautiful Merry Christmas Tree.....                                   "Oh, Christmas Tree, Oh, Christmas Tree"....

@thegoodwife: my first Christmas after the ex-hubs and I split, I got me and DS a lil 3ft Christmas tree from Wal-Mart. It was my first time having a real tree. Just a suggestion if you think you have any room for a tiny tree.

@RogueHippEE: Well I don't think my step-son gives a hoot, but my youngest would probably not care if it was real or artificial she would just love it to be pink and purple all over EmoticonPoint was how there is nothing gained and much more work involved in a real tree from an objective point of view, not to mention in the long term the costs are higher, I just wish I could spread the cost of an artificial one!

We've done both, but it's an artificial pre-lit tree this year.  That's probably my preference, since it's just easier and this time of year I always get stressed and overwhelmed, although a real tree is awfully nice. 4951
