We purchased a furminator for short hair awhile back.  My DD was brushing all the pets this morning.  My dog sat on her lap and was loving it.  Kept coming back for more.  A little while later I looked and the dogs whole back is ripped open in little patches.  Please be careful if you use this thing.  My DD feels horrible.  She thought she was doing a good thing and so did I because the dog was enjoying it.  She wasn't even brushing hard.  I just gave her a bath and some benadryl and peanut butter so she is laying on the couch relaxing now. Also gave my cat a bath for the first time today.  That was a bit intense but we did it.  Don't think he will ever step foot in a shower again. 4951

There are actually a lot of brushes on the market that can do this of overdone. Wire regular type can also. And dogs don't seem to have as sensitive skin, and don't seem to know they are being hurt with constant brushing for some reason. 4951

We have had one for years, and have never had this happen.  But we have a lab and he has a thick undercoat.  Same with the bunny.  I love mine, it seems to be the only thing that works for shedding. So sorry about your dog @dotti573, I imagine the peanut butter and benadryl will help him have a great nightEmoticon

@Fallon: She is some sort of lab but with really short hair.  I was sitting right there and she just kept coming back for more and we didn't even realize it.  She took a good nap and it looks much better than earlier.  She gets hives a lot for some reason so we always have benadryl on hand just for her.  We have other brushes so I will never use the furminator on her again.  I probably should have known because when she was a puppy she chewed the handle off it.  Maybe she was trying to tell me something. Thanks everyone.

Here is all 3 plotting my demise.  The one in the middle got his first bath today.  I think he's still mad at me.

@dotti573: They say cats remember for 16 hours.  I gave our cat a bath years ago and still think he is plotting my death

@RogueHippEE: I was going to get the long haired one also but the other one was making so much noise and sounds I have never heard before that the other one wouldn't come near me.  He is super easy though.  We wiped him down with some wipes and he loves any attention.  My DD combed a whole other cat off him and filled a big zip lock bag.  She's 10 and said we can make a cat wig like they do for cancer patients.  Bless her heart I told her to throw it out.
