Went to the dentist today for a cleaning and was told that I need to get my 3 wisdom teeth (since 1 is missing) surgically removed since they are impacted. My bottom left wisdom tooth is completely sideways according to the x-Ray. How much could this run me? I've never been put to sleep which terrifies me!! 4951

Depends on your insurance and copay. The dentist office should have told you the amount before you left. 4951

I guess they would have to refer me to an ortho surgeon and that surgeon would have to give me a consultation and tell me the price. 4951

Okay. When I had my teeth cleaned when I was twenty right before my mothers insurance was going to drop me, I had all four of mine pulled in the same office with no problems, of course that was over twenty five years plus ago.... 4951

Oh and when I had my sons pulled in 2007 through my insurance I paid around three hundred dollars, it wasn't costly and that was for all four. 4951

I did it years ago, all 4 of them at once, 3 were impacted.  I don't remember how much I spent out of pocket (but it couldn't have been much, I was flat broke at the time).  Warning - I did spend the next several months fighting with insurers.  Dental didn't want to cover it, said it was medical.  Medical didn't want to cover it, said it was dental.  We did lots of running around before someone finally paid the claim.  I don't remember who actually ended up paying, but just know, they DID pay.  You just have to be persistent. 4951

Bout four years ago, I had all 3 of mine taken out (4th one never came in). Dentists would ask if I wanted them to take out the one that was penetrated, but I was way too terrified and told them I'd get it taken out when I was under for the other two. I saw Dr. Manon with northeast oral and he did a great job. It's the only time I've been put to sleep, but they were all nice trying to calm my nerves. Doc asked me questions what my favorite color was and who was my dentist; that question took me a moment to answer and right after I told him, I was out. It was like being so exhausted you just fall asleep and then you wake up all groggy and drugged up lol @shopkin3 You'll be okay, it's the aftercare that's a pain to deal with. Most people recover in about three days.  4951

Our old family dentist left the 2 on my left side when he removed the ones on the right back in 1973 or so. I wish he had gone ahead and removed the other 2. I finally had to have one pulled 2 years ago as it got some kind of infection in the root and was really hurting. And the dental hygenist always has a really hard time cleaning those molars. What was God thinking? They don't really serve any purpose for us in eating, we have enough molars as it is. Kind of like the mistake God made on not putting more padding on shin bones... Big mistake, they really hurt when you bump them. 4951

If it's not an emergency go to UT Dental School. When I had mine removed, the dentist did two in the office.  His dental assistant got sick or something, so I had to do the assisting.  The  novacane wore off half way through the procedure.  The dentist kept sayin "we're almost finished".I had the other two done by an oral surgeon.  He applied anesthetic.  I woke up with the teeth gone.  But then I was dizzy for two days.  Whenever I tried to chew something, I'd get dizzier.I would do the dentist office method again, but I wouldn't want the surgeon again. 4951

I had mine removed via surgeon....all four were badly impacted. I did sedation and the surgery was about 2 hrs. Out of pocket was just a few hundred w insurance at the time.

If you go for sedation make sure there is someone that can both drive you home and tend to you for at least the first day. I came home very medded up and have no memory of day one at home 4951
