How much would you give up TV for a year per day? $5, $10, $20. I could do it for $15 a day. That's almost $5500. 4951

It wouldn't take much.  There are only a few shows that I watch and I DVR them so I can skip through the commercials.   I hear people talk or post about series, but I try to watch them and get bored.  Real life is so different from TV shows that I find myself pointing out things in shows that can't/wouldn't happen in real life.  I can suspend reality for a good movie, but it has to be a really good movie. We are recording the true story of Thanksgiving on Nat Geo "Saints and Strangers" to watch.  The crap they taught us in elementary school is all propaganda.  The people that made this two-part movie said they strived for accuracy, so we shall see. 4951

I concur with @Zokomo's question. We ditched regular TV 2 years ago in favor of just streaming the movies or shows we want. Never regretted it. TV isn't hard to ditch if you travel internationally. Shows just don't make much sense in a language you don't understand although it can be amusing to try to figure out Japanese game shows. 4951

Went to Plymouth for their Thanksgiving Day parade a few years ago. Really interesting. Like Plymouth Rock, the rock is on the beach but legend has it, that is not where the original rock was located, it was on a small inlet island.....then all the old graves..really cool seeing it with your own eyes. Those people had some harsh lives. Creeps me out thinking about it to be honest. Months on end, sailing with no motor, just kinda out there. I was on an aircraft carrier for 11 months and that was creepy. Those people had no idea what they were getting into.    4951

I experimented with that in 2009. I did without a TV from about June through the end of the year. I was fine without it. 4951

That's easy. When my husband and I moved to Kingwood trying to get tv service through sudden link was a disaster so we just gave up. Went 3 years without one even in the house. Didn't miss it one bit. 4951

I went about 18 mos. with no Tv at all when times were previously tough. I didn't miss it at all and became very well read over that period of time. 4951

@Mrb1:

I don't need a tv in the house but my husband and son would freak out. You couldnt pay them enough to not have it. The only thing I use it for is my Pandora. 4951

@PedroDePacas: I could easily give up everything except tennis, basketball and National Geo Wild.  Crime series are only entertaining because I make a challenge of picking out the guilty person or persons 10 minutes into the episode.

I haven't had cable in like 5 years or so. I always use Netflix as my TV. Once in a blue moon I'll get DS and I a movie from redbox. But I agree with @deltadawn as long as I have my books I'm good.  4951

I can not just sit and stare at the screen. I have to be doing something.
It's all garbage. No cable since 2010 and haven't looked back.
As for crime shows, as soon as they show the crime, I pick the plot. All goes out the window. If I am watching I always catch bloopers.
Example. ...
The last scene.... the shirt is buttoned different, no necklace, hair is parted on the wrong side. Then it becomes a game.
The news are no longer the news. It's all sensationalized for ratings. Even the weatherman has to over blow a sun shower.
I'd rather create art and play music. 4951
