Will any of y'all with CHLs open carry after it is allowed next year?

Moving from Indiana years ago we were allowed to do so and I enjoyed being able to carry my larger frame revolvers without having to arrange a whole wardrobe to hide it.

I am looking forward to the change. Just curious as to others' thoughts. 4951

I would like to take an open carry class if one is offered.  4951

I imagine they will be offered at ranges once it goes into place. 4951

On my mid and large frame semi-autos I preferred a Fobus brand tactical holster...iwb or inside the waistband.

For those unfamiliar you have to pull the weapon out at a very specific angle to release from the holster. The advantage is that it greatly reduces the threat of another person being able to grab the gun off of your side. 4951

@TXtransplant: In Indiana, were there many cases of guns being stolen from people's holsters?

Not typically, no. I just always liked the Fobus brand and looked at the above as an additional benefit feature. 4951

I wonder how businesses will respond to customers who open carry? 4951

I do not plan to open carry for several reasons.  However, it will be nice that the law is there if I ever find myself in a position where I want to make it obvious that I am carrying. 4951

@foxymama:  I suspect that they will be very nervous until they get used to it.  I actually feel good when I walk in a gun store and most/all of the employees are open carrying. I expect that those people are not novices at shooting.   However, there will always be "cowboys" that strap on iron (open carry) because they think it makes them look tough.  Those will be the people that get themselves and possibly others in trouble.Overall, I would like to see a required tactical handgun class for anyone that applies for a CHL or plans to open carry, but that's not going to happen.  Fortunately, there have been more positive cases of CHL carry than negative.

When I lived in Indiana I had a gun permit for almost 20 years. I don't remember hearing about any problems with open carry. Unfortunately you will always have a few want to be cowboys who will cause a few issues. 4951

I guess everyone is entitled to their own opinion. My shotguns always go in a case in my vehicle. and are unloaded. I feel no less safe. 4951

I haven't seen the actual law but I'm sure there is some wording that allows businesses to choose not to do business with anyone openly carrying.  Businesses can refuse to do business with anyone as long as it's not based on the usual (age, race, sex, religion, etc.) 4951

I am actually friends with open carry Groups in the Austin and San Antonio area. Most of my open carry activity will be limited to social meetups with others at a place we are welcome and it would be a fellowship meeting. 4951

@Retired_Engineer:

I imagine the already used 30.06 signage will be used as it is effective notice for CHL and one can't carry openly without a valid concealed licence.

I'd rather be the silent threat to anyone with ill intentions.  No reason to advertise it and make yourself a target for the most part, but it will be nice that if someone just gets a glimpse of my pistol it's not a problem. 4951
