I have Farmer's for home and auto and the prices keep going up! I searched the forum for more reasonable companies, and came up with a few names. Is there a website where I can compare the insurances, or just call around?
Thanks y'all! 4951

Call.  We had Farmer's and switched to Liberty Mutual.  It was considerably cheaper, but definitely call and shop around. 4951

Go to your farmer's office and review your policy options. I did that at last increase, made a few adjustments and left happy. 4951

If you know someone in the military, even a distant relative, I would look into USAA. I know after Katrina many had to wait months to even get their roofs repaired. All except USAA customers. They are very customer oriented and are designed to make only so much profit. The rest goes back to customers at the end of the year. Prices are reasonable, not dirt cheap but like I said, all about the customer. My wife got hit by someone and the guy did not have insurance. They took care of it. Didn't pay a dime even though we should have had to pay the deductible.    4951

I also have farmers. And have had for many years. We switched a bmw for a Subaru. Less of a car and yet our policy increased 50$ a month ?? They want to tell me that the Subaru has more "Bells and whistles "??? Wth? I have looked. It's so frustrating because we have 4 cars and the house with 5 drivers. With one boy under 25 it's cheaper for them to stay on our policy and pay us.

Let me know what you find. 4951

USAA homeowners is very expensive, I used to work there.  We got a quote when we moved here and it was twice as much as others and we don't have any claims.  Even in Colo they were more expensive.  We found the best rates here with Liberty Mutual and Amica, you might also check Safeco.  You'll get the best rate if you keep your homeowners and automobile with the same company.  We get a check back from Amica each year like USAA does.  4951

@ZokomoBelieve it or not, dude, call State Farm and do the Discount Double Check....   And the homie, @MarT is spot on about USAA being expensive, as we changed from them to State Farm a few years back and saved close to $500 annually on our Auto Insurance....  I kid you not, my friend....Can NOT recommend Chris Roberson with State Farm in Humble enough....   Address: 1420 Fm 1960 East Byp Ste 121, Humble, TX 77338Phone: (281) 446-2629 4951

@MarT: I'm sure I'm paying more for homeowners but I also saw what happened after Katrina. The homes covered by USAA were dealt with swiftly. All the other ones kinda bailed on their customers or took their time or tried to scam out of it with vague wording. I was there and witnessed it is all I can say. I will gladly pay more not to deal with companies bailing on you when you really need them. There are things you can do to lower it. I have a super  high deductible to lower it. I can handle general stuff, even a new roof but if the home gets destroyed or a tree falls on it, going to cost 10X or more that to fix it so I'm fine with it. My reasoning is how often to you have to file a homeowner claim? Almost never so the high deductible makes sense long term. I'm also in one of the highest points in the county so odds of flooding are almost 0.

@buffaloglenn:

Funny,

We had Farmers also
And we switched to Liberty Mutual
Lowered two vehicles by 30%
Plan to switch my two homes when they come due and lower it again

I don't think Farmers understands. 4951

I'm less concerned about price. It's important, but what is more important, if this area gets nailed by a storm the lower priced companies will be blasted by claims. Just something to think about.     4951

@beastmodeYou are right, USAA does handle claims very well, my BIL was hit by someone insured by USAA and he was so impressed with how well they handled it, he was trying to figure out a way to have them for coverage.The rates will vary not only by your property and record, (at least with auto, I didn't sell HO), but also your status with USAA.  For you example if you were/are an officer or senior NCO, junior enlisted, dependent, etc....  They have different companies which fall under the USAA umbrella and you are put in that company dependent on your status, which affects the risk pool, rates and dividend, according the their underwriters.  I'll take my risks, their homeowners is so high and we saved more on auto with another company, also.I probably have a personal bias, because I absolutely hated that job, lol.  4951
