Somehow I doubt this Governor was really going to roll out a welcome mat to anyone but he now is saying that Texas will not accept any Syrian refugees. It was mentioned that this was one of the goals of ISIS in their Paris attacks, to turn Europe and the world against the Syrian refugees and cause more dissorder. Looks they are attaining their goal. Is it possible that ISIS might have infiltrated some members into the fleeing groups of refugees? Well of course but the vast majority are trying to leave a war torn country run by a despot who gasses his own people on one side and the radical ISIS jihadist on the other. Wonder if the Governor's new policy includes not accepting any Christian Syrian refugees? 4951

Way to go, and let ISIS get exactly what they want; more division, more fear, more "ugly Americans." 4951

Abbott's statement is just posturing.  Once Syrian refugees are in America, eventually they will be able to go anywhere in America. 4951

It's not the immigrants as much as these people have no papers, no way to tell who or where they actually came from. Prison breaks all the time in that region. Basically shaking hands with danger. Obama is being extremely naive if he thinks none of the ones being allowed in have some serious undiscovered red flags. Same with immigrants here coming across. Innocent people are getting killed due to these policies. The risks being assumed are reckless.  4951

abbott does not have any authority to keep people from entering or leaving  texas as long as they are legally in the country. nice ploy to entice his halfwitted supporters tho 4951

Another big question...who is paying for them to get on a flight here? And once here, who is supporting them with food, housing, etc. Until they get on their feet (provided they even bother if everything is being paid for). I think we all know the answer...that being said, should we not have a say since we are expected to foot the bill? I would think so... 4951

If they come here, to TX, I'm not overly worried, there are so many people "packing" here, and the number of places to practice, leads me to think that any terrorist among them foolish enough to try anything, would be taken down very quickly. 4951

@deltadawn: I don't think that really matters. These people are willing to die and that's the problem. It's a war against an ideology and these people see themselves not only as fighters but as weapons willing to make the ultimate sacrifice. 4951

That has been the problem with the "war on terror." However there have to be ways to help those who need it, without helping the terrorists with recruiting. 4951

@Chrisinkingwood: Was reading something about Paris and how they believe 2 of the 6 attackers came across into europe as part of the refugees. So roughly 1/3 of the attackers were refugees. 4951

If we need to help someone, how about taking care of our veterans? This country is in so much debt but we can afford to take on 100K refugees??? How about taking care of the men and women who have sacrificed so much to protect us first! 4951

Doesn't Texas have enough to deal with both with border issues with Mexico and aren't we still supporting Louisiana refugees? Why does Texas have to get directly involved in every crisis and house people? Can't we send support, money, etc. to the areas to help? Is anyone helping us take in those we already have? 4951

@myevilgrin: That's exactly why we should not send more troops. It would only be the start of another endless commitment of resources.
