Last night in the middle of the night my husband found a scorpion walking across the floor in our house.  A pretty big one, too, more than an inch long.  We have never seen a scorpion in our house or even around our house before.  I think it is the first live scorpion I have seen that was not behind glass at a zoo.  Anyone else have this problem?  Any recommendations on what to do to get rid of them, other than calling the exterminator (which I plan to do first thing tomorrow).   4951

Not normally here. I've heard they get brought in with landscaping rocks from the hill country. Is your house new or maybe new landscaping? 4951

@tatertot58: We were told they probably hitch-hiked in on the pallet of landscaping rock that had recently been delivered.

Yes there are scorpions here- but not as prevalent as other places in TX.  Most people start seeing them when clear cutting / land prep/ construction starts- like where the new HEB is going or the houses and gas station going in Mills Branch. Do you live close to one of these areas 4951

Our cat found one behind the bookcase in our living room a year or two ago, it was probably an inch or two in length. Never realized they aren't found much around here. I have no idea where it came from, we haven't had any landscaping done in a while. We haven't seen one since. Now I wonder how it got in our house! 4951

My parents get them all the time in Conroe, (they're surrounded by huge trees),  but I've never seen them here.  I'd say they don't bother me, but that's only because I haven't been faced with one in the house!  Yikes! 4951

Yes, we have them in this part of Texas..lol. they typically hide in the walls. I had them real bad in a home JUST a mile or two north willis. They were so bad we moved because the land lord wouldn't let us exterminate for some stupid reason. After one fell out of my kids coloring book and another out of my dirty clothes I said seeya!!!!!...lol 4951

Thanks for the comments. Our house is not new and we r not near any consteuction. Not closer than a mile anyhow. We have wood behind our house.. I don't know how to explain it. I have found out they are around here but the varieties around here are not lethal but more like a bee sting. And they are arachnids and glow in blacklights. Babies cling to mom's back until they are old enough to make it on their own. So one mom can equal 40 scorpions or so once they jump off. Snakes black widows and now scorpions. What a place! 4951

Don't forget the brown recluse spiders!!!  True storyWe moved to Ohio from Texas back in '68. Almost a Year later my Mom killed a scorpion crawling from under the couch. Somehow I made the move and survived almost a year!!! Think about that as you crawl into bed or settle onto your couch!!! 4951

Hi neighbor,

I have found 5 scorpions in the house in our first few years. It was usually after a lot of rain. I haven't seen one for about 10 years now. We have had a big ugly centepe in the shower a black widow and I have captured 3 birds that flew inside. Outside, snakes, two of my dogs have been bitten by copperheads, and Doctor believes DH was bitten by a brown recluse a few years ago. It seems that I am always the one to have to get the critters. Oh yeah, I rescued a baby opossum. At the time, I tried to show my big, tough football playing son. I thought he was going to crawl up the wall to try to get away....(my son, not the opossum).

I ALWAYS turn my shoes over and tap & shake before putting them on!

As much as we leave the back door open, I'm lucky a copperhead hasn't come in....yet! 😁 4951

Once or twice I found one under something I picked up in the yard. Always use caution when something in the yard has been laying out overnight. Doesn't seem to happen to often in these here parts, but it does happen.I have never been stung by one, so have no idea how bad they can be. 4951
