We have gotten the same amount of cards in the same period but no fraudulent charges. They replaced them because somewhere we shopped had had issues. I like BOA, I just wish they had a better branch here in kingwood. I loved Amegy bank. Not sure why we had stopped using them but if we needed to switch, I would go there. 4951

We had problems with BOA when we first moved here, so we switched to Bank United, which later got taken over by Washington Mutual, which after the 2008 banking fiasco got taken over by Chase.  We've had a Chase credit card for over 25 years and only had it compromised one time.  They notified us before we even knew about it and had new cards the next day.I forget who we got our our mortgage from, but it got sold to other banks twice and it ended up with BOA.  Their on-line banking website sucked!  Now that our mortgage is paid off, I'm done with BOA!At least Chase has a good website and I can easily see my checking, saving, and credit card accounts all together. 4951

@Retired_Engineer: I can do all that on BOA..I have an account with Wells Fargo that I opened so my could get a student account, it much more convenient for him. I haven't been to impressed when he has had an issue. Outside of our everyday, bill paying banking, we use Shelby Savings..a 3 branch bank up in Center...they didn't even have computers 17 years ago and all loans had to go through the board. It was very much a "who is your family and your standing in the community" type place and still is in a lot of ways.

@Retired_Engineer, we have a cc though Chase.  I will say they are helpful.  They do notify us quickly of any unusual charges.  But they are also quick to decline a charge, for reasons I can't figure out.  We never carry a balance on the card, and it is always hit or miss if they decline the damn thing. I was at Ihop, paid, no issues.  Went to Walmart, they declined the charge.  WTH?  I call and they are like, Oh just making sure it was you.  I was home by this time, so a little too late.  I use cringe every time I used that card.  Now I pretty much just keep it all on Amex.  If I know I am going somewhere that does not accept Amex I call Chase before I leave home to let them know I am getting ready to use the card.  Just too much work.  I told dh we probably need to call them and cut our limit way back, maybe that would help.  I do appreciate them watching out for me, but not so much when my card is declined for $30 purchase on a card with a stupid high limit and a zero balance.

@Fallon:   We use our Chase VISA cc quite a bit.  It's easier than carrying cash.  We put all receipts in a shoebox on my desk so I can track all charges on Quicken.  When I pay the bill, I pay the total charges at that time so it doesn't snowball on us.The only time I've had a transaction declined was on a trip.  We had a hotel reservation and they ran our card to make sure it would be accepted.  When we showed up and checked in, VISA declined the charge.  We called them and the problem was the hotel never credited the first charge so VISA saw they were trying to charge us twice.

Sorry you are having card difficulties - but better to get a new card than to have to deal with fraud. We've been BOA customers for years. We've seen the technology changes from Unversity's phone line payments back in the early 80's, They have caught fraudulent charges on our accounts several times over the years - including someone who made their own fake checks. We've used several savings and loans and other banks, but our main banking remains with BOA and we're generally pleased with them. This year we have had our bank card as well as several other credit cards replaced due to problems at different stores - not at the bank itself and there were no such charges on our cards.  I do checkour accounts frequently these days because the thieves seem to be more common and getting smarter! 4951

@BooBear: When growing up, our family used a bank named Fidelity in Baton Rouge.  They had two other locations in Baton Rouge.  They still used the little bank books for savings accounts.I remember visiting Texas when I was young and back then, Texas did not allow banks to have branches.  Each bank was its own entity but a large bank could own numerous banks, but they all had to have a different name.

@Retired_Engineer: I remember those days. I opened my first checking account at Fondren or Fondren Southwest, can't remember now. Seemed so odd that there were no branch banks. I think the change to branch banking happened around 1981 or 1982, I remember it was on the statewide ballot. Most of downtown's major skyscrappers all had bank names back then if they were a primary tennent, I remember the Allied Bank tower, Bank of the Southwest, First City Bankcorp and a few others. All  gone now.

BofA cards have the new chips but 85% of the times I've tried to use it the business doesn't have the chip readers working. Not much good if no one accepts them. 4951
