I would love to read the information that others post. One poster has already told me how much he loves his. I am just trying to justify the price. 4951

I looked into one.  Generac (not sure of spelling) seems like the best ones out there.  I did find that you can buy them on line and have them delivered pretty reasonable.  Not sure how difficult it would be to find someone to install.  When I was looking the purchase including the install really jacked the price up. 4951

Get the Generac and when the vendor is at your house say that we are thinking install one and ask the vendor what price you can give you for install right now. This is there slow season and you can save both on install and service contract, 4yrs ago i saved over 1900.00 on winter install from quote over peak season.  4951

My experience with generators is they produce a different sine than the regular a/c coming from Centerpoint. The piston down stroke causes a spike. If you buy a system make sure it is quality I tore up a refrigerator with a cheap generator in IKE. I believe they have what they call rectifiers to fix this in high end models. Plus you have to pull maintenance on these things. Its like a pool you cant just let it sit there. Its a good buy if you have the money to do so. 4951

Honda makes the smoothest running generators. I am talking the generator part itself is built by Honda not just the engine. 4951

@friday1:  This is not true in real time, meaning there this minute spikes from center point... I would not be a concern with that if you looking to run your home. You work for NASA?

@Sniper12: In my research of why my 7 year old refrigerator went down I found a blog where a guy had the same thing happen. He did a sine test on a Craftsmen generator which I have and showed a spike pattern throughout compared to out of the meter A/C current. He also showed how smooth a pure Honda generator runs. I am not being a smart ellic its just my experience. The Genrac whole house may have these issues resolved I don't know. I just remembered what happened to me.

Get a water cooled not air cooled version hooked up directly to the house gas.....Bigger is better. Get 25% more than you think you will need. A unit running at 75% is more economical to run that one at 100% trying to maintain the load....not to mention the bigger unit will last significantly longer. Here, you get what you pay for. A cheap unit is very expensive in the long run. Mine can run everything in my home all the freezers, both ac's, and turn all the lights on.....no problem.Model Number:RS40
