I live near a tiny nugget of a School Zone... It's probably 400 yards in length, and it does not have flashing lights. I drive my husband to the Park and Ride every morning and most mornings the School Zone is already "active" (7:15am). I don't know what it is about this zone, but rarely do people follow the law.... I mean, hardly anyone. Shocking. This morning at 7:30am, I turned the corner from our street at a two way stop (which is also a bus stop location, but no kids at the time), and a neighbor from around the block tried to run his stop sign so (I guess) he could be in front of me and speed down WLHP. Well, that didn't work out for him. So we both turn onto WLHP headed toward NP, and he rides my butt the few yards until the beginning of this School Zone that hardly anyone obeys.
I'm following the law, doing 20mph, and he just can't handle that, so he guns it and goes around me, in the freaking School Zone! I'm sure he got up to 45mph, at least, before the end of the zone! As he passed, I honked the horn and flashed the lights. He tapped his breaks a little because a School Bus was coming toward us. Then he turned into Elm Grove and stopped (I think he wanted me to pass him so he could get behind me... Maybe he realized what he did after seeing the bus??). I pulled up next to him and asked him to roll down his window. I said, "What was that? You passed me in a school zone?!" He said, "No, it's not." My husband told him yes it was, and to go back and take look, and then called him an idiot. What a mf!!! This guy, my neighbor. We ended up right behind him at the light at WLHP and NP.
The School Zone I'm talking about is on WLHP, just inside of Appalachian Trail and Valley Rim Drive.
Has anyone else had this much fun this morning?
