I am not a fitness loving person, but I am trying.  Getting some help, have a plan, worked with a personal trainer yesterday and OMG I am sore, every inch of my body neck to ankles.  I know this is normal and will pass, but when does it get easier, I feel like a weeble.  4951

They say do it for 21 days and it will become a habit - hopefully it doesn't take that long. 4951

But it's a good pain, right? Hard to keep that in mind when you can hardly sit down, though. 4951

@deltadawn that 21 day thing has never worked for me, lol.@Maisey1 I cannot grasp the concept of good pain yet.  But, it's not an injury, just super sore Emoticon  The idea of going back to tomorrow for another session seems unthinkable.  @Fallon  Climbing up and down ladders gets really painful.  I had to paint a lot before we moved from our old house.  Not a pound lost, might have been the medicating with wine that was the issue there.  4951

Love exercise, main thing is finding something you enjoy. I run a couple of miles everyday  M-F and have a nice home gym I added to over the years. I had a very overweight friend who wanted me to help him. It worked, he lost all the weight but what he found out is that he liked playing full court basketball, like everyday he would play. He found something he loved doing finally. Have to enjoy it. My wife tries to workout with me but she loses interest after a couple of weeks. She makes progress and then just drops it. I think she needs to join a gym and do group classes for motivation. I never lose motivation. I just enjoy it, major stress reliever and just feel better in general.  4951

Actually in order to make it a habit you have to do it for 3 months. Follow your trainer's advice. Hope fully, your trainer is skilled enough to help you explore different exercise options so that ou can find something that you do enjoy doing. I've always told my clients to find something they enjoy doing and they're more likely to stick with it. If running on a treadmill was the only exercise I wouldn't do it. I'm not fond of running anyway- but try to do it in cooler temps. I love bicycling - but not so much right now. I walk the dogs 3 miles everyday. I do cardio classes - kickboxing and dance being my fav. Strength training is very important to build muscle to keep metabolism up. I'm not a fan of the HIIT programs ( like Crossfit) -for me too much of a high risk of injury- but I love functional training. And then there's flexibility training- something I fail at- but still try to get it in 1-2 times a week. And just try to work through the unmotivated times. Like me today... Got the dogs walked but need to exercise and don't want to. So I'll do 20/20/20. 20 minutes of interval bike riding/20 minutes of weights and 20 minutes of yoga. Short enough not to get bored and want to quit but just long enough to get some training Good Luck and stick with it- in 2 weeks you should start feeling more energetic  and less sore. If your soreness lasts more than 48 hours- tell the trainer to back it down. Some trainers are into "killing it" but I find clients tend to stop exercising when pushed too far too fast. That mentality of "No pain No gain" is so 80's. A little soreness is to be expected too much is not a great thing 4951

@Jpgurl: Exactly what @Jpgurl said - I often see trainers (most of them younger) push people hard right from the start.  Not smart in my opinion.  You have to see what the person working out for the first time in a long time can reasonably do, and then build from there.  You should be sore but not for more than 48 hours, and nothing that an advil can't mostly resolve.  You should not have much joint pain.  No pain no gain is BS.  Being fit is more a lifestyle than a one month fad, so trainers that push too hard from day one are likely more of a problem than a solution.  Easy for me to say as motivation is not an issue; I started working out on my own when I was 13.

Once you get to where you are consistent and working out moderately don't have to be concerned about calories. I eat healthy mostly but if I want a big double cheeseburger or cheese cake, no problem because I will cook it off in no time, not even worried about it. I do have to watch wine and beer though, massive calories. I love craft beer but 6 of them is like a whole pizza calorie wise. Beer and wine are very deceptive like that.  4951

I have been going to Emoticonlanet Fitness for 2 weeks & still dread going every day . I do all my work out & still wonder why I'm doing this . At my age I should be knitting or watching soaps on the TV . I do find I'm not as stiff as I use to be , I guess that's one reason to keep going (LOL). As soon as hubby joins I'm sure it will become better cause we will be working out together . Just another week to go before hubby joins me. 4951

I mainly do walking and some bike riding. My walking goal is a 4 mile circuit on the greenbelt trails, I do it about 5 days out of the week. I find I average about 17 minutes per mile and have the mile markers memorized, a bridge, a big tree , a turn in the trail. I click my stopwatch when I leave the house and I can tell if I'm running slow or fast by the alarm going off at the 17 minute mark. It's always a good feeling to get home before the final stopwatch alarm goes off!  The biggest thing for me is just forcing myself to do it. I can always find too many reasons not to go but once I get out I do enjoy it. I find the hour gives me time to think and clear my head and I always feel a bump of energy as the day goes on. Good luck! 4951

@WJo: LOl but you can do both!! I exercise AND crochet!! But seriously I was talking to my BFF and prtner in the fitness world and we were talking about the age thing. I've been a fitness pro for 20 years and a regular exerciser for 3 years before that. We decided we should get time off for good behavior and not have to exercise any more. Sadly our bodies disagree. Use it or lose it. I work at a gym but don't exercise there much. I have everything at home and am motivated enough to keep at it. Except for today- I'm procrastinating big time!!
