Pay is going from $2.00 per hour to $12.00. I don't know, but I would think a server would make more than $10.00 in tips there.https://www.yahoo.com/food/joes-crab-shack-tests-no-tipping-model-132305833.html 4951

I'd rather have tips personally. Some will still tip cash anyways. 4951

Wonder if that includes other restaurants under the same ownership... Isn't Salt Grass owned by the same group? 4951

Joe's Crab Shack is owned by Ignite Restaurant Group. They also own Brickhouse Tavern and Tap. Landry's sold Joe's nearly 10 years ago. (Source: Former employee of both chains and corporate) 4951

@Kraz2014: I did not know that! I thought it was still under the Landry's (Fertitta) blanket.

This is where all restaurants are heading. We got used to tipping "15% - 20%" which is ridiculous. Businesses need to pay their employees a reasonable market wage and consider those costs in their pricing. If you feel so inclined to tip the server for an exceptional service, that's your right, but I should not cover the portion of their salary for doing what they are supposed to do. If they suck, fire them and someone who wants to do their job well. Pay them market rates to do their jobs and let the excellent ones get a ittle extra (5% - 10%) for a job well done.  4951

I did like this about Europe.  Of course the servers knew that the crazy American's would tip themEmoticon  Wonder how places like Hooters will be able to entire women to wear their skimpy uniforms though, if this happens.  No tips, may mean they start wearing clothesEmoticon

@Fallon: you're forgetting something here. Hooter's target are men. They offer beer and boobs. Those are the two basic needs for any man. We will tip them no matter what their policy is and no matter how bad the food is. You go there, you get cold beer, you get buzzed, the girls sits down to talk to you with her boobs half-exposed, basically you're in a trance. You get the bill, you tip them well. It's like taking candy from a kid.

I know @notfromhere, but if the women aren't going to be getting tips, why would they want to wear those outfits?  This straight up salary thing, could hurt Hooters.  I am really sad over this.    Once again, I am sure this is @BooBears fault.  Things usually are.

@Fallon: My point is they would get tips regardless. Booze + Boobs = Men will tip 50% even if the policy says don't tip

@notfromhere: that's why men like carrying a lot of dollar bills....tipping the pole dancers ain't cheap when you are using 5s and 10s...

From what I read this morning it will only be 18 of it's restaurants for now. Most likely it will be in places where higher minimum wages are the norm like LA, San Francisco, NY etc. And it is an offset to a higher salary wage, I doubt you will see this trend in Texas.  And Joe's is certainly not "fine dining" but more of a middle priced chain. Some places, Chili's I think is one, have gone to a system where you order and pay via a thing on  your table and cut out a lot of the work of the servers. Not sure about the chains but in most good restaurants servers have to split some of the tips with back  of the house staff. My daughter worked for several years as a server in a well known place on Union Square in SF. She said she usually went home at night with $200 or more in her pocket in tips. That won't be the kind of pay servers can expect without tips and just a wage. 4951
