I looked into doing a groupon for my business, to get some new customers. I don't think I can justify it though. They take nearly 50% of the sale price. So if I normally sell something for $25 and I do a groupon and sell it for $15, I'll only make $7.50 on it! That is pretty insane in my opinion. I have really toyed with it but I just don't think I can justify making so little.
@allymansfield: Not going to be profitable to you- loss leader- you are basically paying to get your name. Out and hopefully gain repeat business therefore off setting the initial loss- it's not necessarily for YOUR gain but to point attention to your product.
For example- I didn't know you sold dog collars until this weekend past on the Barkfest post.. And while I may have bought from you I'm much more inclined to by from Twyla's because they are non profit and ALL the proceeds go to the charity and she had pictures and they were super cute and they are a known quantity ( in the dog world) Where as you are for profit but no marketing and not a known quantity- so I probably would've passed your booth to give a profit to a non profit.
So groupon can be your friend- to get the word out about your business
