@Annie:

I just America's Best over by TGI Fridays. Two pair for $109.95. They have a nice selection and the quality of the frames seem better than what I got at a couple of Kingwood places. Only took 4 days to get them and the people were really nice and helpful 4951

I've been buying online at Zenni Optical for years, last time I looked at the Drs office they were about $600 and I didn't even like them.  I normally pay less than $50 with progressive lenses.  Warby Parker also sells online and has a few brick and mortar stores.  They will mail you frames to try on.  They are an American company, Zenni is Chinese.  4951

@MarT: I wear progressive lenses too with prism in them.  How do they measure for the progression of your lenses?
I would be afraid they would not be done right.  My husband has bought single vision online and they were fine so i am interested in it just not 100% sure yet. 4951

I needed a second pair and took my Rx to Target's vision center. That inexpensive pair turned out to be one of the best pairs I've had.

Dr. Shrum is where we go for contacts and most glasses, but don't overlook places like Target before you decide. 4951

20/20 Express is where I bought my oldest kiddo's last pair from.  Got them in under an hour and the cost was $69.00 and you are out the door.  I was skeptic about it in thinking they would mess the prescription up but they didn't.  They have a lot of styles to choose from.  I guess we got lucky that day.  We were in and out in under 30 minutes with glasses in hand. 4951

@foxymama  I don't know a whole lot about it all.  But, they have you submit your PD measurement with your prescription.  When hubby went to the eye doctor they told him that they couldn't possibly get it right, but neither of us has had a problem.  I bought one really cheap pair that was too flimsy, but I usually buy a couple at a time and it was probably $25.  I maybe be settling too, lol.  I haven't noticed any difference from the ones from the eye doctor.  I just happen to think the whole eyewear thing is a huge monopoly and am willing to gamble.  I first tried them when my glasses were quoted at over $600 with no frame coverage on our insurance at that time, and I really couldn't even find a pair I liked, so I figured I had nothing to lose.    4951

@foxymammaThe prism might be something different though.  Is that for double vision? 4951

@MarT: yes, In eyeglasses, Emoticonrisms are used primarily for double vision, positional correction, or convergence correction.   its measurements are in the script so I am not too worried about the prism part mostly the progressive part.  I ususally buy at Target and they have had to redo mine a couple times so that is my concern.
I will have to check the return or exchange policy.  But it is a cheap gamble in comparison.  I will probably try it with a cheap pair just to see or with some sunglasses. 4951

@foxymammaDefinitely can see your concern, especially with problems in the past.  Zenni might not be the best choice for you, especially being in China.  You might talk to Warby Parker, they have a brick and mortar store in Austin and Dallas.  Ds developed double vision when he was around nine, it was frightening.  It's scary when you go to the doctor and you know they are just as worried about a brain tumor as you are, he saw two specialists and got an MRI within 24 hours.  He'd always had straight eyes, he'd been to the eye doctor many times because my family has a genetic eye disorder that I'm potentially a carrier of.  Suddenly, his eyes were out of alignment.  He had to wait a few months to have surgery, they wanted to make sure they stabilized first.  They took a pair of Dd glasses put clear lenses in them and added a prism.  But he hated wearing them and just put everything about an inch from his eyes to read.  It was all so scary.  Our eye surgeon said he'd only ever seen this once before, but since it's so easy to fix it probably doesn't get written about.  I went from OMG my Ds has a brain tumor, to Yay he needs eye surgery in about 24 hours.  4951

Dr. Shrum's office usually has very nice frames.  I have always gone to Visionworks, at the mall too.  But the last 2 times I got glasses, I bought them from him.  You can always run by his office and just go in and take a peek at his selection.He is on WLH, pass 1960 and the office is past the middle or elementary school.  It is on the left and he has a large sign so you can't miss his office.

@Fallon:

That is my ophthalmologist too. I looked while waiting for my appt but nothing "special" jumped out at me. 4951
