Mario Lopez (not the movie star)
I don't remember where I got his number but I called him yesterday and he returned my call . Gave me a great quote on the phone . How do I find out if he is bonded and insured? I googled but could not find him anywhere 4951

I can't remember if he was bonded but I'm almost positive he was. Husband can't recall We even have a small leak due to the large leak they were repairing. He's on the way here to fix it later this week. Most roofer need an act of congress to get them to repair. Not this guy Emoticon. I hope you are as happy as we are with him. Btw he only does roofs 4951

He should provide you with proof of insurance (please call them) and bonding. And, no payments up front, except for materials. And always get 3 different quotes. If he is way under everyone else, probably you'll get a substandard roof.Dan the Handyman 4951

One thing I would ask each contractor is which will they use:StaplesMachine hammered nailsroofing nails, hammered by handI prefer roofing nails hammered by hand.  I feel they do a better job of holding down the shingles. 4951

@Zokomo:

Make sure you get it all in writing from Westco, they do a good job but the building inspector was not very happy they did not have the required permits etc when they roofed my house. They also did not give a detailed estimate and got "testy" when my insurance company asked for it. Also need to watch that they pick up nails and debris as well as go over the yard, driveway etc with the magnet to make sure they got all the nails 4951

Thank you@retired engineer and @tatertot58.  I appreciate your replies.  Wesco has done the roofs on several of my neighbor's houses, and I really like the work they have done. 4951

@Zokomo:

They do good work, they just like to skip around the necessary paperwork, except when it comes to taking your check. They also talked to me like I was a stupid female when I asked questions. Told me not to "worry my pretty little head" about it. 4951

@Retired_Engineer: I'm with you on staples, they are what gave power nails a bad name. Hand nailed is considered the best by most old school contractors but air powered nailers in the right hands can be just as good. Pressure has to be checked and maintained and that is hard when you have a crew of guys all pulling from 1 compressor.  And it can make a big difference on the brand nailer. Hitachi is at the top but some guys buy the cheap ones from Harbor Freight that leak oil and are inaccurate on the depth settings. Like most things, if I can do it I will since I know that I do the best quality work for myself and don't take shortcuts. I'll need a new roof in a year or 2. I could easily do all the lower first floor stuff, the garage and breezeway but I'm too old for second story work!

@tatertot58, boy are you right.  We have had 3 roofing companies go out to our house in NC.  We just wanted the roof inspected.  Not really thinking it needs a roof, but wanted to make sure.I call and set up the appointment and my mil is there to talk to them.  I have come close to homicide dealing with these men.  And I won't even go into how they treat my mil.  If you are older and female, apparently you are even stupider than being younger and female.My dh finally went back to NC a couple weeks ago, just to deal with this.  He couldn't believe how these grown men were until he had to deal with it while there.Unfortunately my fil isn't able to handle this stuff anymore, because of the onset of Dementia.  And my mil has never had to do any of this stuff.  She is getting meaner thoughEmoticon  I seem to be rubbing off on her.  lol

@Fallon: That is not with only women anymore, it seems most company's I have dealt with over the past always think the customer is a complete idiot and knows nothing about what they are trying to get service for.  If you do research before calling someone out, you will see what total liars most are.

@Fallon: You have a house in NC?  What part?  My husband and I might be moving there for his work.   Raleigh or Durham areas probably.
