While trick-or-treating with my son on Halloween, we found a male pit bull wandering around. He has a collar but no tags, dark brown and white. Very sweet, but I cannot hold onto him for long. He was found in Sherwood Trails near Longleaf Pines Dr and Chanay Ln. If he is yours or you know who he belongs to, please let me know ASAP. 4951

Looks very similar to the one that slipped his collar and charged at my  guys and me last week in Greentree. The owner managed to retrieve him after a tense moment. She had him on a leash with a regular collar which he easily slipped out of. Hope it's not the same dog- but never know. I remember saying he was friendly with people but she wasn't sure about other dogs ESP male dogs 4951

No way would I have this "unknown pit bull" around a child or other people.  This breed has been genetically programmed for generations for aggressiveness and high prey drive.  When you read about attacks this breed does to family members, most times fatal attacks, they all say the dog was good with family members UNTIL . . .  Go to www.fatalpitbullattacks.com they keep the statistics on the huge number of fatalities this breed is responsible for.  IF you place this dog you will be responsible for this dogs actions.  They are notorious for chewing through chain link or busting through board fencing.  That's why people have trouble containing them in suburbia.   4951

How about they are given a chance to find the owners before hysteria sets in?  No one knows how this dog was raised, trained, socialized etc.  Caution is a good thing with ANY stray, especially large ones, no matter the breed. 4951

That dog is definitely someone's pet. Please do not take him to SPCA, they don't adopt out that breed, basically you will be sending someone pet to death. Were you able to scan for microchip? Pet Smart will do for free. 4951

Thank you for picking him up.  Please take him to be checked for a microchip. If you can't wait until tomorrow, Banfield may be open today at Petsmart or try the ER behind Deerbrook Mall. Post signs. Call Vet's offices in the morning and post on local sites.  If anyone should claim him ask them to describe the collar and his markings. I am sure that his owner is worried about him and hope you can reunite them soon. If you do have to take him somewhere please ask them about their policy on adopting out this breed. Some sadly automatically euthanize.  Good Luck. 4951

If it comes down to the wire, BARC is not only in the jurisdiction but the best place. They do adopt out pitbulls. They have many volunteers and rescue groups that work with them. Not saying he would make it out of there but a maybe. Please put up big signs, call vets, post on HKA lost and found Facebook, contact local rescue groups to report finding him, get him scanned for a chip. 4951
