Teachers are asked to do so much often with so little control of their classroom environment. Sometimes their attempt to gain control results in headline making incidents.http://www.11alive.com/videos/news/local/brendas-last-word/2015/10/28/74768976/ 4951

I agree with everything she says but I watched all views and that cop was way over excessive, He could have killed her....mouthing off doesn't deserve near death experience by being choked flipped body slammed dragged and thrown across a room.I typically stand by authority but in this case he lost it. But no one can argue...our schools(nation wide) are in a heap of trouble from all directions. 4951

He had 2 other lawsuits pending against him.  The students nicknamed him "Officer Slam." 4951

Creatine
a mood altering weight lifting chemical.

That guy the teacher and the vice principal all need to be barred from being around children.

The cop did it and they other two said they believe it was appropriate.

SICK SICK SICK

Anyone who may think this okay, heed this....
What you deem okay treatment of others will soon be used against you.

This whole thing was crazy. First of all, yes texting in class when it is not allowed is wrong. I think we used to pass notes which is similar or having a conversation with a fellow classmate while the teacher is teaching. Is it something that requires violence to stop?Second, have we come to the point that a teacher can't control something as simple as this? I had an uncle who taught 10th grade math and I can assure you he could have handled this without calling the school cop. And in my high school days the assistant principle was the guy who did the dirty work. I guarantee Mr. Dickson would have taken care of this in a firm but reasonable manner, but he is long since retired now. And what about school cops in general? What is their purpose? Why are they called something as lame as "resource officer". The very term dumbs down their occupation. I would like to think that they are their first for the kids safety... you know the good  guy with a gun argument. And I am sure they are there to quell disruptions since teen age hormones can get out of control but I would think it would be to at least try to de-escalate a situation. That usually involves talking and reasoning in a persuasive way. So now the guy is fired and the girl has a criminal record. Crazy.  4951

@Chrisinkingwood: As many on this board have said, "Times are different."  In the time my husband has been an elementary school teacher, he has had his life threatened, students have brought weapons to school, etc.  Parents of these kids do not care.  Where he is at now, there are full time police officers who sole job is working at the elementary and they have been called to a classroom in his grade level at least once a week.

I dont think she will have a criminal record. From what I'm reading there were no charges brought against her and she was immediately released.

Him on the other hand has a record before this.

We should not be so quick to blame mom and dad either. If we whoop our kid the school sometimes calls cps. Kids spend more waking hours at school and afterschool programs and daycare more then with mom and dad in many cases.

The government ran schools want to take over raising our kids, well looks like that isn't working so well is it. 4951

My daughter teaches at an elementary school in Aldine ISD.   One of her kids straightened a large metal diaper pin and was poking it at others.  My daughter saw this and told him to give it to her.  He stabbed her in the arm.  My daughter picked him up and brought him to the principals office.  They had the kid sit there for an hour or so, then gave him a little slap on the wrist and sent him back to class.Administrators are scared of being sued for administering punishment, won't back up teachers that do, and so (just like in that video) the kids know there are no consequences for bad behavior and can get away with just about anything.  Back in my time, if somebody did something like that, the vice principal would administer good old "licks" and the parents would have been called in.  Now, many parents don't care.  If someone were to spank their little "precious", they would be raising hell at the school. 4951

Your daughter's school has a big problem. That chid assulted your daughter, and no one seems to have taken it seriously. The guardian should have been called, and the child removed from school. 4951

@Retired_Engineer:
I have always told my kids that if you get in trouble at school, you are in triple trouble at home. I have stuck with it for all three and i get all kinds of complements about how curtious they are to their teachers. Something that would require a coupe of days of restriction at home get turned into weeks if it is done at school.

My youngest got a taste of that recently. The teacher was so surprised about her punshment that she called to tell me what a good girl i have and that everyone makes mistakes. I cut the restriction off a little early after that and made the teacher look like the hero. Lol

Which school does she teach at? You can PM me if you like. I'm just curious since that is the district I graduated from. Some of my friends went back to teach for the district, and I'm constantly hearing about how much worse it has gotten. It's like parents just aren't parents anymore, and it really leaves the teachers in between a rock and a hard spot. Most of the really good teachers eventually leave because the pay isn't that great for all of the crap that they have to put up with, and they receive no backing from administration. 4951

@Burnsway: I agree with you but parents have the responsibility of sending children to school prepared to learn and adapt to a learning environment, which often means more than just telling them to behave in class. Time at home may be limited but that time has to count. No one should be a bigger influence on your child than you the parent. I know this can be difficult to achieve at times but consider the consequences of failure. A teacher's main focus should be academics not ethics.  And yes this policeman was an absolute jerk. I wonder how he would react if the child was his.

It may be her last word, but it's not the last word.  The racist Brenda got it wrong. Those who claimed the cop was excessive didn't wait for all the facts/There's a third video, oh you who jumped to the wrong conclusion.conservativetribune. com/cop-who-slammed- student/ 4951

Stop posting the truth, FCA. Nobony cares about facts, they only want what will generate confrontation in order to push their agenda.

I don't understand why some people ALWAYS defend the cop even in the face of such brutality. It's the same mistake those who ALWAYS defend one side based on color. This includes the Black Lives Matter movement.People need to start looking at these cases individually. Race is an issue in this country. There is no denying that. And I mean that goes both ways. However, not all of the recent high-profile cases have been about race. This one, for example. It's just a bad cop against an unruly young woman. Both were wrong, but the police officer should know better. You can't beat the crap out of somebody because they are misbehaving. He wasn't threatened. He was just displaying violent behaviour. She should be suspended. He should go to jail.Police officers aren't always right.  4951
