@bp2018 and I are pretty careful about which houses we hit, but thanks for the info. Last year, we did have a scare when one of the Tootsie Pops looked like it had already been licked. She ate it anyway. 4951

I am with you on this one. If you are so nervous and distrustful of others maybe you should just hunker down in your bubble and stay home. 4951

Sure, this will give parents a peace of mind. But, this event is mainly for the children! What child wouldn't like to see the peanuts inside of their snickers bars? Pretty awesome! :-)

I think that's awesome that they're doing that. Sadly nowadays, you can't really even judge by neighborhood. I always check the candy after DS gets into it; but this year he'll be with his dad for Halloween.  4951

@valeriekristina: UMMM what parent would expose their kid to radiation uneccasarily- pretty sure the tech is NOT going to allow kids to be around the X-ray machine while it's running.

Saying people are paranoid for taking this safety step is like saying people are paranoid for wearing a seatbelt .......kids have been killed over tainted candy before, no reason a parent cant take safety steps. I usually just look ours over real good.

Plus they are going to have pizza... Emoticon 4951

Yes, of course the children will not be near the X-ray machine. But each child will be able to view their image of their own candy!

@allymansfield: It's not anything new.  In the 80's hospitals would do this.  If anything, I would say the fact that hospitals don't do this anymore is a sign of being less paranoid.

We never had our kids candy x-rayed, but we would spread it out to see if anything looked tampered with, and maybe snatch a few choice pieces, with the kid's OK. 4951

Well one can hope that  parents have as much concern for unsafe candy as their kids teeth. Yes, Halloween is about candy but make sure the kids brush regularly and especially after the candy fest. I only promote this because at age 59 my teeth aren't what they used to be! 4951

We've always spread out all the Halloween candy to look over and threw away any questionable pieces. The kids got to pick out 5-10 pieces of their choice then the rest was either donated to my work office or stored in the freezer for later.
