This letter went out to K-Park parents this afternoon. This morning at approximately 7 a.m. two stranger-danger incidents were reported in our neighborhood, and we want to share that information with you.As a Quest Early College High School student was walking to her bus stop, a young adult male in a light colored 4-door sedan pulled up next to her and offered her a ride. She declined, and he drove away. She was the first to arrive at her bus stop at Elm Grove Elementary. The same man pulled up at the stop and said “Are you sure you don’t want that ride?” She declined. He said “Are you sure?” She again declined, and he drove away.Another Quest student reported that a man fitting this general description asked her if she wanted a ride as she was walking to the same bus stop at Elm Grove Elementary. The girls texted a warning to their friends who walk to that stop and reported the incident to school personnel. As it was still dark, the girls were not able to give a detailed description of the man or the vehicle. We commend these students for their quick action in alerting others to the situation. This is a good opportunity to talk with your students about personal safety: -Walk to and from school in groups.-If anything unusual occurs, please tell an adult immediately. Parents and teachers need to know right away what happened.-Never talk to strangers or accept rides from them.-Don’t panic. If you are afraid or have a problem, call a parent or a trusted adult.-Arrange for immediate access to neighbors and to other trusted adults who could answer questions or be contacted in an emergency.-Tour the neighborhood with your child to identify safe and dangerous circumstances and places.-Never tell people at the door or phone callers that you are home alone. Say your parents are busy and offer to take a message.-Keep your house key hidden. Don’t give it to anyone and don’t keep it in a visible place that would tell people you are going home to an empty house. 4951

I still stand at the end of my driveway and watch my 10th grader walk to her bus stop. I hate being paranoid, but I also don't want anything like that to happen without me knowing.  4951
