Really?  After just one in-house tardy?  I realize if there is a pattern and problem, I completely understand sending an email to a parent, but after just one?   I think someone is a little drunk with power and a little too quick with the send button.  I mean seriously, how many of us were late going from one class to another.  Stuff happens, life happens, you forget a book or something in your locker, you have to stop and go to the bathroom.  4951

But for a kid's one and only tardy of the school year?  Sure let me know if a pattern is emerging, but for one? 4951

The tardy messages are sent if you are set up for Home Access. You need to go online and check your notification settings.

Seems a lil quick . I'm so glad we didn't have instant messaging when I was growing up . I would have been in more trouble than I already was . 4951

Oh, I thought this was some overzealous teacher with too much time on her hands. If it's automatic, then okay.  I had one call me at work last year because was talking to a friend in class.  I asked if she had told him to stop and had he refused or was disrespectful, did she send him to the principal?  She said "no, it's not a big deal but I told him I was going to call you."  Okay, so you called me.  I'm 40 miles away.  What do you want me to do about it if you aren't going to do anything?  I don't know...put some duct tape over his mouth and don't call me again unless there's a REAL discipline issue that you can't handle. He's a good kid, that makes good grades and is never in any trouble.  They were excited because they were leaving school early for some type of trip to another school for a special project.  Cut them some slack. 4951

Thats true it could be automatic as soon as it registers the tardy or absence it sends the email . I seem to remember getting an email with my dd a time or too like after a dr. visit where she went in late. 4951

Makes sense that it's automated.  Our system was a telephone system, a computer generated call.  I got a call nearly everyday the final semester with Ds #1.  By the time he graduated we were all  plum worn out.  My little rebel!Son #3, got a missed class call once, it was a mistake and I was certain from the first minute.  If I could put all my kids in a bag and shake em up real good, they would all probably be a lot more balanced.  4951

Just because you received an email doesn't mean you have to read it or do something about it. 4951

After one? That's a bit much. With DS now being in kindergarten, I'm starting to get all familiar with this. My ex called as told me that they were gonna be late by 15mins cuz of traffic...I was okie dokie, it happens. On the back of my mind, I thought, alright here we go on the tardy train... Mind you my ex lives 45 minutes away from the school and I had told him before my concern with him living so far away. We have a week on/week off schedule. Needless to say after that, there were three more tardies. After third one, I sent an email to my ex saying.. hey I noticed he got some more tardies, is there anything I can do to help? I never got a reply back. And a counselor ended up having to make a courtesy call and since then last week was DS's with the first week with no tardy. Yay! 4951

@donnatella: So you don't want rules enforced evenly?

@Stealth83: Come on, you know what I meant. I just want them to use some common sense. 4951

As an employer, I don't accept "life happens" or "stuff happens" as an excuse or that it is every acceptable.  It is nice to see a school finally doing the same.

@Stealth83: Eh, I do.  If my (otherwise awesome) assistant is late once or twice a year because traffic sucked, I don't nail her to the wall for it.  If my (not-so-awesome) assistant is late today because traffic sucked, and late tomorrow because her dog was sick, and then sneaks out early the next day to run errands, then we have a problem.I'm with @donnatella - when it's not a pattern, then yes, I think a certain amount of reasonable leeway for "life happens" is, well, reasonable.
