Hello, I'm new here and would like to introduce myself.  I'm Angela Smith, and I work from home as a resume writer.  I'm the mother of 6 and proud wife to a Chief in the Coast Guard.I love to read, and have recently fallen in love with listening to audiobooks on Hoopla!  I also love to bake, particularly making yummy, dessert-like muffins and brownies that are actually healthy.  I'm looking forward to getting to know more people in Kingwood.  Hope everyone's having a great day!

My grandma listens to books on tape (not calling anyone old, just relating).  It keeps her busy.  She is legally blind, she can see some but not nearly well enough to read or do lots of things.  Her books keep her occupied and she loves them.  She gets them for free through Lighthouse, a service for the blind or nearly blind.  It is great, they see what she has "read" and recommend/send her similar books.  Recently they sent her 50 Shades of Grey.  LOL don't know how that one snuck into the rotation of an 89 year old lady, but luckily my sister caught it and promptly sent it back!  She called the company and they were horrified that it was sent to her.  Thank goodness she didn't start it (she can't see the titles so we would have not known until it was too late).  Oh the hilarity that would have ensued! 4951

@yankeejessica: Could you just imagine an old Ukrainian woman from Long Island with a Jewish accent calling up "Allyson, I am reading this book....what is a d*ldo?"  LOL  I didn't read the book, have no desire, but I can only imagine!

@donnatella: I used to listen through Audible, but when I realized I could listen to most of the same books for free through Hoopla and One Click Digital through Kingwood library, I cancelled my subscription.  I'm in the car a lot taking kids to and from school and running errands, etc. and I always have a book playing while my toddler watches Elmo from the backseat! lol

@asmith7501:  Welcome to KDC, Angela!  This board has good information, but mostly it's a lot of fun!I'm a big reader myself.  I use a Kindle so i can adjust the size of the fonts so it's easier on my eyes.  I have yet to try an audio book, but I've heard many people like them.  Once I learned to read, I've never liked anyone to read to me.

@allymansfield: Same here. I had one grandmother who was sassy and free-spirited who would have loved it, and one who was very traditional and old-fashioned who would have been horribly offended at the mere suggestion.

My dad's parents were amazing. I never saw two people more in love. I remember as a kid my paparod came home from the store with apair of super high heels with feathers on them. Definitely sex shoes lol. They were probably in their 70's at the time, I was a teenager and my sister in her early 20's. She took one look at the heels and said "oh paparod how do you expect jodymom to walk in these!?" His response was literally epic "she only has to make it to the bed!". I thought we were all going to die of embarrassment, my poor dad most of all! I will NEVER forget that.Freaked me out at the time, now I think it's amazing and hope my husband and I are still that in love and frisky at that age! 4951
