About a month ago, my pup got spayed, and I didn't let her play outside until she was pretty healed up.. At least 2 weeks of no play time.. Poor girl. Anyway, I just noticed this bump on her stomach.. Not sure if it's a bite and if she needs to be taken to her vet...

No clue. Wish I could help. I have boy dogs - their surgery is less "work" it seems. Is she licking at it like it bothers her? Is it near the incision point? I mean - I watch "The Incredible Dr. Pol" on Nat Geo Wild... crazy things can happen, but I am sure if anything the vet will give you some antibiotics if it is a minor infection.  4951

@shopkin3, I'd check with the vet because she probably needs and antibiotic. I had laparoscopic gall bladder surgery, and over a year later, I developed a very inflamed lump under my belly button that looked like that. After starting antibiotics and applying hot compresses, it drained leaving a small hole in my belly. Well, at the time, I could still see that low on my belly and notice something black inside. I went to the doctor, and he discovered that my body was rejecting the permanent stiches used during surgery. The point I'm trying to make is it may be part of a stitch that was left behind. 4951

that happens because sometimes the suture material is a pathway for bacteria. 4951

@shopkin3: it can be the pathway for the bacteria to get under the skin and start forming a postule or an abcess.

She was taken to the Animal Hospital in Humble, and when it was time to pick her up, we were told that she shouldn't interact with any dogs, play, or really be outside for at least 1 week, 2 weeks at most. They used dissolvable sutures, and it healed very well...just the other day, she still had the knot remaining where they tied it I suppose...and now she has that bump but I don't see the knot anymore. So, I am not sure if the bump is onto of the knot, or if the knot fell out...it doesn't seem to bother her, but I am concerned if it is just a bite, if it is infected, if she is having a reaction to the sutures. She was spayed September 11...i'm thinking about taking her to the vet tomorrow morning  4951

I would take her to vet. It's always better to be safe. It will give you a peace of mind. Please keep us updated. 4951

I'm thinking it was just a bad bug bite because the next day, it lost its purple color and the swelling went down drastically. There's still somewhat of a bump, but it looks like it's healing. Still keeping an eye on it though! 4951

@shopkin3:

That's great that it's getting better! You could put neosporin on it to heal sooner and prevent infection. 4951
