Ok, I haven't had to buy a personal cell phone in years...but the new company I am going to is not offering a company cell.I'm just starting to do research.  Who do you use?  Looks like things have changed from a contract perspective and now you have to buy the phone at full price?  I'm thinking verizon is my best bet.  Other than their website anywhere less expensive to get an unlocked phone???  I can't imagine paying $750 for a stinking iphone.  That's crazy! 4951

We use Metro now, no real issues with coverage yet, faster data than Verizon, and it is truly unlimited at full speed on the $60 plan, it also allows tethering at full speed for the first 5GB. Would never go back to Verizon at this point, only other one I would consider is T-Mobile as they own Metro and have similarly customer friendly policies,I got a Microsoft Lumia 640 on Metro for $40 but they are hard to find, it is a great phone though, if you feel like paying up front the new Lumia 950 is out next month for $550 and it has awesome specs, 4951

Verizon will pay you $100 to port your number and $100 to trade in ANY smartphone. As long as it's not broken it can be the cheapest smartphone known to man. You can look at that as $200 off your phone if you want. If you see me in Cleveland I can actually use the $100 towards the price of your phone on the payment plan. Plus, I won't try to sell you anything. I'll tell you about the promotions but let you decide if you want it or not. 4951

Our family of 3 all have metro pcs. For some reason we can't get calls at Lake Livingston, though metro says we should. We can make calls, send and recieve txt and data there, but only very sporadically receive a call there. Even though we spend lots of weekends there, we keep the service because I pay only $95 for 3 lines.

Straight talk on verizon towers is a great deal though, and you get verizon coverage. Just be sure you get the verizon compatable phone. 4951

When we were searching plans a few years ago, I went nerdy and made a spreadsheet to compare all the different companies I was looking at; (the top 4 at the time). What I found at the end of the day, taking into account some of their "fine print details", data & talk plans & phone prices, was that they were all damn near the same price, give or take $10. (That was a couple years ago). Anyway, we went with Verizon, which coincidentally gives us better coverage for some of the places we go. I considered Boost at one time, but the phone prices were stupid. 4951
