Anyone been camping in Lake Houston Wilderness Park? I'm thinking of taking my boys there now that it's not 500 degrees all night. 4951

Yes we've camped there quite a few times. I would recommend it. There's trails, a creek, campsites aren't on top of each other. Also a wildlife center that puts on different exhibits so the kids can learn something. Most areas have local water, electricity, and restrooms showers are close by. Basically your out in the woods with a few comforts which is nice so you don't feel like your living the walking dead.lol. 4951

@Mccrj: Not exactly a "wilderness" park, especially with an 8' high fence surrounding the property.

Maybe not wilderness like Yellowstone or Alaska, we were there last weekend with the cub scouts and saw deer, armadillos, lots of birds and heard coyotes and owls at night.

As far as the fence goes I don't know maybe to keep the deer in the park or maybe it's a city of Houston requirement (the park is owned by COH) it is very near neighborhoods also I heard at one point that part of the park was once a Baptist encampment.idk. 4951

When fishing there last year, I thought this place would be great, and close to home. In the scouts we always went to Bastrop/Huntsville SP of Livingston SP, which suited us all fine. I was thinking this would be great for when my daughter gets a bit older as a great starting place, where you could go for just one Saturday then come back after breakfast on Sunday and not be worn out. 4951
