Serial Galleria thief busted for Instagram postWhen store security noticed a rare $9,400 dress was missing from the
Galleria's Luis Vuitton in Houston, they thought they might have some
idea who took it.
So they looked up 36-year-old Tashuana Green's Instagram page, and
there was a photo of her wearing the missing green and white-striped
luxury dress. Green was charged with theft on September 30.
"Apparently she was known to the employees," said a spokesperson for the Houston Police Department.
Neither Galleria security nor the mall's Louis Vuitton would comment
on Green's reputation, or how staff thought to look her up. A national
spokesperson for Louis Vuitton said that stores in malls share tips on
likely thieves.
According to court documents, Green has long posed a threat to luxury
brands at Houston's upscale mall, and she's faced repeated charges for
high-dollar heists.
It started in 2011, when Green faced charges of participation in
organized crime after she and two other women cooperated to sneak a
$3,000 purse out of the Galleria's Chanel Botique, then returned a month
later and stole two more, worth $5,250 combined.
Store security told police the women made an orchestrated effort to distract staff while they snuck the purse into a back pack.
In May of this year, Green was charged with stealing $1,970 in belts
and purses from Salvatore Ferragamo. Security video showed she hid it in
her clothing and walked out of the store.
Then on September 2 she was charged with taking a $715 purse from
Saks 5th Avenue, but charges were dropped when police determined they
had the wrong person.
Green's record includes at least 22 charges in Harris County,
including criminal trespassing on Galleria property, theft of perfume,
purses and clothing, use of a counterfeit $100 bill and discharging a
firearm in a metro area.
When Louis Vuitton staff noticed the dress was missing from their
store, they checked security footage and saw a woman bring it into the
dressing room then leave without it. Police did not know how the woman
concealed the dress.
After finding Instagram photos of Green wearing the dress, store security contacted the police who issued an arrest warrant.
However Green was already freshly behind bars on separate charges. She has since made bond, court documents show. 4951
