Well, measure X and Y and figure your square footage and as a general rule add 15%. Some laminate cuts with a utility knife, some with a table saw. That gives you a starting point. No idea what folks charge for labor 4951

The underlayment, laminate and moulding strips will probably run you 2 to 2.5 times your square footage for the least expensive laminate. Installation is super easy but if you have someone do it for you it could be $3-5/sq ft or more (we had a guy help finish up with the last 200 sq ft of one of our homes and it cost around $500 so I'm kinda guessing here). Floor and Decor has a good flooring selection and usually has contractors hanging around that you get call to get a quote. 4951

@Stealth83We actually used Lowes, dude, and after checking with several different Flooring Companies, Lowes was the least expensive, did a really good job, offers a reasonable Warranty, and we were most Satisfied.... 4951

I purchased from Houston Floowing Warehouse.  The laminate was $2 per sq foot installed.  That included removing the existing carpet. 4951

@foxymama: Laminate is a very durable material and holds up well in high traffic areas - like stairs. When installed properly it looks just like wood stairs. I would love to replace the carpet on my stairs with wood or laminate eventually. Much better than the traffic wear I get with the carpet.

With wood you can get exact sizing but laminate only comes in certain widths.  Seems you would have lines with laminate on stairs cause it isn't as wide as a stair. 4951
