Has HISD stated that they will be teaching Islam in schools or is the video to prepare in case? Teaching Islam would be able to be fought by separation of Church and State and Harris county residents could easily obtain legal counsel to get it out.Has there been any talk about other ISD's, such as Aldine, Humble, or New Caney?  4951

more histrionic **********.....muslims only make up about 2 percent of the us population. most of these scare videos are just people fearing the muslims will take over. they aren't trying to in the us and there is no way they can anymore than the assembly of god can take over your schools. 4951

My daugther recently worked on a paper about Jesus and his teachings and compare them to the Jewish beliefs of the times. I am sure it is something similar. 4951

Being taught Islam does not mean conversion. I have studied Islam in seminars and academies plus i have attended worship at local mosques in my former hometown in CA just for observation and awareness. 4951

If one of these kids was mine, I'd be raising unholy hell at that school, administrative offices, and everywhere else I could think. Lawsuits would follow. If Christian kids have to fight for a prayer time around the school flagpole once a year and follow strict rules for that, then what the hell is this about? It goes way beyond teaching "about" a religion to forcing kids to actually experience it. One school even had the kids kneeling down toward Mecca and another had them copying sentences that there was one god but Allah and Mohammed was his prophet. WTH??

I think there would be a difference between teaching about different cultures, of which Islam is one of, and teaching Islam. Not the same thing. The pic above, would you have complaints if they were dressed in say german, or some asian garb to teach about various cultures? And there might have been that, and only this one picture made it.Don't think we have to

@HollyHobby: I would be equally upset if my kids or grand kids in a public school had to attend a assembly where the Nativity of Jesus was being shown or acted out. Yet it happens.

Cite one example, please? Public education has successfully driven out anything like that, including, in most cases, any type of Christmas carol remotely related to the birth of Jesus, which, coincidentally, is the whole reason for Christmas.Chris, you are all about hyperbole, aren't  you, hon? I've noticed you're rarely able to back up your claims. Also, with this comment you've outed yourself as anti-Christian. I'll keep that in mind because that's your worldview and colors everything you say and write. 4951

Informative awareness of other beliefs is far from conversion.  There's no harm in simply teaching and informing about various cultures and beliefs, as long as it is factual and not persuasive in nature.  Having the kids dress up, like in the picture above, is going to far, but the study of cultural differences and similarities is what education is all about. 4951

@RogueHippEE:  No, because he said he would be UPSET if they "had to" attend an assembly. That is hardly just having a different opinion. That's the type of person who complains to a district office and suddenly, NO Christmas carols are allowed, no allusion to the birth of Jesus (as the sole reason for Christmas in the first place), etc. It's narrow minded and bigoted against Christianity, thus my statement."I would be equally upset if my kids or grand kids in a public school had to attend a assembly where the Nativity of Jesus was being shown or acted out. "

@HollyHobby: First of all, I am not anti-Christian, my wife and most of my family members are Christian. I am Not a Christian but that doesn't mean I don' support others in their faith, even you! HH, my only reason for posting what I did that you just replied to is that it is a 2 way street, if having kids in a public school to dresss up and recite the Koran is wrong so it is for kids to dress up as characters at Jesus birth. I have no problem with any religion being included in school curriculum if it is the purpose of the class to teach history and culture. For instance one can not study the Roman Empire without touching on Christianity. What I have a problem with is one religion being favored over another in a public school. If the child attends a RC parochial school or Jewish school or a Muslim school one expects religious teaching to be covered and have a high position in the education of the child.  Here is a recent one: www.elkharttruth.com /news/schools/concor d-high-school/2015/0 9/01/Concord-Co from 2011, not sure if this district still does it:http://www.patheos.com/blogs/friendlyatheist/2011/12/16/arkansas-superintendent-puts-up-nativity-scene-in-public-school/
