I was curious if anything more was going on with the plans to widen Loop 494 from 2nd Baptist Church northward to Northpark. I went to the TXDOT website and looked it up. The widening project actually only entails widening it from where it narrows near 2nd Baptist up to a point about half way between the Homewood Suites property and Kings Manor Elementary School. Why it stops there instead of Norhpark is nuts. Here is a map:Not sure who is funding it as it says non TXTOT resources.Don't expect any solution to the traffic mess any time soon! 4951

Waste of money.  Really need to widen the RR crossing on Northpark. Left turn, right turn and two lanes straight through.  Do the same heading east towards the tracks  Get more cars through you can shorten the light timing a bit and allow more 494 traffic to move through.Of course the best option is to put a bridge over the whole mess and 494 will take care of itself. 4951

@ET: No, I disagree as far as 494. I think it needs to be a proper 4 lane with a shared dual turn lane down the middle from Lowe's up to New Caney.  The traffic is only going to get worse and it is stupid that they just keep putting this off.

There are way bigger problems out there than that stretch of road. 4951

You can run the service road feeder road whatever road you want to call it to bypass the lights. This area is largely ignored for infrastructure issues. i am surprised they are extending the 3 mile stretch of w lake houston to mills branch. They have been on that project for a solid year almost. I guess they plan to retire on it. 4951

The real problem will be as they develop the vacant land along L494. I know the Kingwood Parc thing seems to be in limbo but the road is too small for the amount of traffic already on it. Eventually something will go in on that vacant land. The problem as usual is that they will wait to widen the road until after new buildings or a shopping center goes in and then the backups will be even worse. 4951

The biggest problems I see on 494 are the turning lanes going into KW dr from both directions. If those lanes could get extended to allow more cars then traffic wouldn't back up so much on 494. Same with Northpark at the rr tracks. The light only allows a few cars to go so traffic backs up behind the turn lanes. It seems extending the turn lanes would be an easier solution than widening the entire road. 4951

I would like elevated on and off ramps from 59 running right over 494 and the tracks for KW drive and Northpark. 4951

@Maisey1: Agreed as I have on occasion had to wait through a few turn light cycles when going southbound on 494 turning east into Kingwood. However the inherent problem is that increasing the amount of cars turning from 494 to either KW Dr. or NP increases the red light for the east/west traffic on those roads. I think what bothers me the most is that this stretch of road has been studied for years and the traffic increases with more residents and development along 494 (apartments, schools as well as businesses) and yet TXDOT, Harris and Montgomery counties as well as COH are no closer to a solution. Perhaps some new information will come at the next town hall meeting Councilman Martin is hosting.

It would help if insperity didn't get special treatment.
I can't believe a company can stop traffic on a major road so employees can leave.

People ignore the stop before making right on red. Plenty of times I nearly got t boned by an ignorant ****** as I had the green but they insist on making a turn right in front of me.

They block intersections that jams up traffic so nobody moves. New York City gridlock.
They are so afraid to wait the 2.5 minutes at a light.

I can only imagine when that new shopping complex opens how jammed the area will be. Kroger's drives are so narrow for the vehicles in the area and signage is itty bitty. I'll go ahead and assume the shops etc will be full of over priced crap or empty storefronts.

I don't think 1314 will ever be done. They say shops going in there too.

When will they be refurbishing the standing empty strip centers? Bring something people want?
Or is that what you all really want? More gas stations, fast food and big box stores? How many are needed?
If I must go these stores are usually empty. How do they keep the lights on and people employed?

If you drive the freeway every exit to every town in every state has the same corner.

Oh how I miss Main Street America, where going for a morning stroll got you fresh brewed coffee, home baked danish, a huge good morning a pleasant smile. Where you can sit outside on a park bench Sipping a coke, having an ice cream....just watching the cars cruising by. Remember when we cruised? No need to raced down the street at 90 mph to get to the red light. People knew each other, would wave or pull over and say....where ya headed? Jump in.

Yep missing Main Street America
Don't you?

@beadweaver: When I moved here in 1980 I had to go up to see a client in Lufkin. I remember when 59 went through downtown Cleveland.
