This happened to one of our own here at the KDC office:On Friday Sept 18th I went to the Northpark/59 Kroger in Kingwood. Later that evening my bank card was used in Woodlands at the Kroger store. On the following Monday (9/21) my bank called me to ask if I was in Katy...I was in Kingwood. It was used in Katy at Kroger 4 times that day. All of the charges were made at Kroger, and each time it was just under a $100.00. 4951

You would have thought Kroger would do something by now. It isn't like this has been an isolated incident. 4951

It seems to always be the Kroger at 59/NP, at least most of them anyway?  I just received a new card with a chip that is supposed to prevent this?  I wonder if it really does.... 4951

We really, really, really need to move to the chip and pin cards here in the US ... QUICKLY!!I can't imagine how much this crap is costing retailers. My debit card was skimmed several months ago.  They ran up right at $500 on it within about a day and half before I notice.  Smaller purchases at a number of stores.  The largest one was a Spec's over on the west side.  I had a great conversation with the manager there, and they're the ones who end up being out the money.  Unfortunately, it is so common, that police agencies don't have time to investigate all of it and don't usually make arrests until they can bring down a whole ring.  That takes time. 4951

Someone drop a tip to khou kprc and ktrk even 26 kriv. Maybe someone will pick up the story and put pressure on Kroger to fix this. They have a mole in the store stealing credit card info and skimming cards.  4951

@HotterThanYou: Does this mean it is skimmed by an employee of the company and used later at another company or maybe even sold to another crook?

I had my card stolen not too long ago. Apparently, charges under $100 don't flag  until it is multiples. Someone did 15 charges at 99.95 at walmart on mine... I am guessing it was through the moneygram people or something since it was so exact. So frustrating.  4951

@tatertot58:

The only way the chip is going to work is if the stores are equipped to scan it. I've had my bank card compromised and replaced three times before we realized it was coming from this Kroger. Now, it's cash or nothing. I go to the atm on the way to the store. Pain in the butt, but my card's been safe ever since. 4951

@starryskies67: Starting next year, if the company you buy from is not compatible with the chip, and your card info is compromised, it becomes their responsibility to reimburse you and not the bank's.

@RogueHippEE:  Very true, except that it begins to be the responsibility of the business this Thursday, October 1st.

Get you a woodforest account. They issue same day debit cc cards. Its 10 bucks for peace of mind to keep someone out of your account or use cash.Make two accounts at the bank transfer funds for running money that way they don't wipe you out. 4951

Thanks for the heads up. We made a purchase Saturday with cash.
We are no longer swiping everywhere.

On another side.....
kroger needs to get a handle on it. The banks need ti get on kroger, we need to lean on kroger.

When we all stop shopping there maybe they will.
Their home goods never panned so they put in clothes. I don't buy my clothes etc at the grocery store.

I wish we had a place to stroll the shops, bakeries, meat and fruit markets. Life was so much better and we supported each other. That made us care about our business and our community.
We are just demographics and profits to big corporations.

As of this past Saturday we are not shopping there anymore. We are on a tight budget and could be wiped out while waiting for repayment etc.
They don't deserve my cash if they don't care for my community. 4951

I've stopped shopping there. I just don't need the hassle and if they aren't responsive, they must not need my business. 4951

@QueenB: Absolutely no clue.  I had the card in my possession, but someone stole the info (likely an employee somewhere with a skimmer or a skimmer on a gas pump etc.), made a new card and was using it on the west side of Houston. I still have absolutely no idea where it happened.

@tatertot58: No it does not help to have a chip and I think it's more than just Kroger that they are getting stolen from.  My DH had his stolen twice in a month and the only place he was both times was the Speedy Stop at the corner of Woodland Hills and North Park.  I was on here discussing it and someone was at Kroger using it.  They are supposed to be watching now according to Capital One.  9 years ago when I worked in Walmart, the register didn't prompt you to ask for ID unless it was over 100.00 and it was credit.  I think that's why they are all being done in the 90.00 area.  The bank claims to be watching his account now for these types of charges. We haven't shopped at Kroger since August when it happened the first time.
