Its wrong but many times renters will not pay last month and also take things because landlords hold deposits when they shouldn't. Deposits are meant for any abnormal damage done but not normal wear and tear. So renters over the years have learned no matter how clean and nice they leave a place they will never see that money again. There are horrible renters and horrible landlords and the past of both reputations have been damaged to the point that in most cases someone is not going to be treated right. I wont bore you with all my horror stories as a renter or all my dads awful experiences as a landlord. Both sides need to have their @ $$ handed to them... lol
@Burnsway:
I'm not like that. I only kept that tenants deposit because it cost over $8000 for repairs. I didn't sue them because I knew they didn't have money. They were arrested for check kiting after they moved out. I treat my tenants with respect and they do the same. I've returned deposits when they broke dishwasher door off because they were really trying and kept the house clean. I know there are bad tenants and landlords. My tenants stay for years. Just the two different tenants surprised me because I'd never had a bad experience. The one that tried to live for free owed me for 4 mths when she finally left. But yea you are right, I think if a landlord causes problems, they will end up with problems in the end. 4951
