MeatloafThere is often more filler than meat in most meatloaf served in restaurants. They drown the meatloaf in sauce and seasonings, so you won't notice the lack of taste and meat.Dunkin' Donuts donutsYep, Dunkin' Donuts' most famous product shouldn't even be ordered. They all come frozen so that fresh donut you think you're getting isn't really so fresh after all.Popcorn at the first movie of the dayAll of the popcorn leftover from the night before is kept in big bags then reheated the next morning.Anything with steak or beans at Taco BellThe beans look like cat food when they come to the restaurant.Employees then just add water and stir until they cannot see white anymore. When the steak sits too long, it becomes like hair gel.Hot Dogs at baseball gamesAny hot dogs left at the end of the day are put back in the refrigerator, and come out again on the next day.Ice creamYou can go to any grocery store and buy the same exact thing they are serving you without the restaurant charging you ten times the store price.Wendy's ChiliThe meat in the chili is the leftover meat that dries up until there is enough for a batch of chili.Gourmet BurgersMany restaurants try and use one expensive ingredient in a burger, and then label it "gourmet" with a significantly higher price tag. Most so called expensive ingredients are overrated, used in extremely small amounts, or mixed with other ingredients making them cheaper to use.Sauced-up specialsWhen a restaurant has extra ingredients about to expire, they usually put it out as the next day's special, disguised in a sauce. They use the sauce to hide the fact that the ingredients are getting old, and are past their prime.Iceberg LettuceIceberg lettuce is one of the cheapest items that you can buy at a grocery store. It is ninety eight percent water and then marked up at least twenty times at a restaurant.Best SellersMany think that best sellers have high turnover. However, to keep up with demand, restaurants will pre-make the top sellers, leaving them to sit around and develop food borne illness.By ordering a less popular item, it is more likely to be made to order.BBQ Sandwiches at KFCThe BBQ sandwich is made up from old chicken and soaked in BBQ sauce. It is then pulled apart and kept for up to a month.McCafe at McDonaldsThe McCafe machines are routinely neglected, and rarely cleaned at most McDonald's restaurants. Most employees are not even trained on its cleaning and maintenance. All the McCafe beverages run through the dirty machine. 4951

@CBP210:  That's not the same as what is mentioned here. Plus, you think every place is crap food except El Jalapenos.  I think you are just a bit biased and might be an investor in the place.

MeatloafThere is often more filler than meat in most meatloaf served in restaurants. They drown the meatloaf in sauce and seasonings, so you won't notice the lack of taste and meat. That's not something I eat at home and certainly NOT something I would eat out.  Dunkin' Donuts donutsYep, Dunkin' Donuts' most famous product shouldn't even be ordered. They all come frozen so that fresh donut you think you're getting isn't really so fresh after all.I go to Dunkin' for coffee, not donuts.  Shipley's is the place for donuts.   Popcorn at the first movie of the dayAll of the popcorn leftover from the night before is kept in big bags then reheated the next morning.Popcorn for breakfast?  Gross.  I never go to the first movie.  Anything with steak or beans at Taco BellThe beans look like cat food when they come to the restaurant.Employees then just add water and stir until they cannot see white anymore. When the steak sits too long, it becomes like hair gel.Doesn't that cover 99% of their menu?  Hot Dogs at baseball gamesAny hot dogs left at the end of the day are put back in the refrigerator, and come out again on the next day.Hotdogs at a baseball game are a must!!  I just wait a while before getting one.  Ice creamYou can go to any grocery store and buy the same exact thing they are serving you without the restaurant charging you ten times the store price.I usually don't order dessert.  Wendy's ChiliThe meat in the chili is the leftover meat that dries up until there is enough for a batch of chili.Wendy's is for burgers, not chili.  You have to focus on a place's specialty.  Gourmet BurgersMany restaurants try and use one expensive ingredient in a burger, and then label it "gourmet" with a significantly higher price tag. Most so called expensive ingredients are overrated, used in extremely small amounts, or mixed with other ingredients making them cheaper to use.A regular burger with cheese, maybe a little bacon is more than enough.  Sauced-up specialsWhen a restaurant has extra ingredients about to expire, they usually put it out as the next day's special, disguised in a sauce. They use the sauce to hide the fact that the ingredients are getting old, and are past their prime.I stay away from the specials for that very reason.  Iceberg LettuceIceberg lettuce is one of the cheapest items that you can buy at a grocery store. It is ninety eight percent water and then marked up at least twenty times at a restaurant. That's not something I eat at home and certainly NOT something I would eat out.  Best SellersMany think that best sellers have high turnover. However, to keep up with demand, restaurants will pre-make the top sellers, leaving them to sit around and develop food borne illness.By ordering a less popular item, it is more likely to be made to order.I order what I want, not what is trendy or what everyone is ordering.  BBQ Sandwiches at KFCThe BBQ sandwich is made up from old chicken and soaked in BBQ sauce. It is then pulled apart and kept for up to a month.Again, I stick with what a place is known for and KFC is NOT known for BBQ.  McCafe at McDonaldsThe McCafe machines are routinely neglected, and rarely cleaned at most McDonald's restaurants. Most employees are not even trained on its cleaning and maintenance. All the McCafe beverages run through the dirty machine.I'd rather run my MCD McCafe K-Cups through my own Keurig at home.

@FoFa: Almost 30 years ago I was a food runner at the Hot Biscuit. Routinely, food left over from the breakfast buffet went to the fridge, and placed right back on the buffet the next morning.Lesson: Never be the first people at a buffet-type restaurant when it opens.

I learned not to order wine from a place we ate dinner at in Bandera, Texas. The menu said Red Wine so asked if it was a Merlot or Cabernet and the lady said she would have to look a the box. 4951

Taco Bell beans = dehydrated beans to save shipping weight. They are cheap, so I don't really care about this one.

The movie theater popcorn one simply isn't true. I always go to 11am matinee movies and there's always fresh popcorn popping which they scoop and serve to me every time. 4951

I rarely eat out at a restaurant. I prefer my own cooking and it's fresh and clean.

I never worked at Dunkin but I did work the overnight at Mister. All donuts were fresh made and I either iced and or filled every damn one before I served them.
The donuts blow west of Chicago as does the food.

I miss the mom and pop fresh from the old countries recipes. It didn't matter what type of food you wanted, most often grandma was someplace in the house over seeing everything.
She made sure to come say hello, nice to see you again, how his your mom, kids etc and actually meant it.

All of us who like to cook should open a place and share our ethnic and regional recipes.

I went to a restaurant food event and just have a hard time eating any of it. 4951
