Had to go to my grandson's football game at Aldine Middle School's football field. Not the best section of town, indeed. Mostly industrial warehouses and lots with oil pipe and other stuff on them. Seems odd that there are not many places around there to eat since it is just south of the airport not far from a lot of hotels on JFK and Beltway 8. We try to grab a bite before the game since it's 8 or so when we get home. Funny thing was we had our granddaughters and ended up eating at a diner called Tony's Country Kitchen, run by some Asians but the hamburger, fried and grilled shrimp were pretty good. Loved the decor, kind of from the mid 70's! 4951

It just goes to show that sometimes you can find some hidden gems where you least expect it.  Some of Houston's best restaurants developed around the industrial sections near the ship channel.  And with Houston's lack of planning/zoning, you end up with some interesting locations.  I'm not over that way very often, but will have to remember Tony's.  4951

You're a brave man, getting shrimp in a diner you know nothing about, in a rough section of town! But it does look good! 4951

I grew up in that area !!  YES I survived ALDINE !!!  You are correct NOT a good area.  That is exactly why I moved out here.  I grew up living on Aldine Mail Route, got married and moved to Kenswick by the mall.  Once I had my first baby we had to choose between staying in Aldine where I could be a stay at home mom, or move to Kingwood and take a full time job...   We weighed the pros and cons, I got a job and we moved... Best decision ever !!!!!  I witnessed paint snuffing and cocaine in the 6th grade.... Kingwood is NOT perfect but it sure ain't Aldine!!!  lol 4951

@buffaloglenn: Makes me think of Cavatori's (spelling?) near the Heights.  DELICIOUS Italian food, and that is coming from a Yankee!  Defiantly in an "interesting area".  Only reason we found out about it was because when I was chartering ships a friend took up there because it used to be the place where all the brokers would go in the "old days" to make their deals.  Neat place with some cool history!

Tony's is awesome!!! Worked right down the street for many years. Lots of great families in that area that have been there for many years. Don't judge a book by its cover. 4951
