This morning there was an incident as a child was walking to Riverwood Middle School. It was reported that a man on a bike followed a young girl walking along Evergreen Valley Dr. At the corner of Hickory Village Dr and Evergreen Valley, the man pulled in front of the girl, blocking her path and got off his bike. The girl felt threatened and ran, flagging down a passing car. As the car stopped, the man jumped on his bike and sped away.The description of the man is: "Hispanic-looking" male, on a black bicycle, wearing black baggy shorts and a black T-shirt. He was wearing a ball cap with lettering on the front. He was approximately 6 foot tall and about 180 to 200 Emoticonounds.Please keep an eye out for individuals riding or walking on the greenbelts during the time kids are walking/biking to school. Riverwood Middle School has released a "Stranger Danger" email to parents.... 4951

I really can't believe how brazen some of these people are. What kind of mindset would you have to be in to try to corner a kid in broad daylight? Every time I think of Phillip Garrido with the stun gun, it sends shivers down my spine. 4951

Very scary!  Parents, please have conversations with your children.  Why do these things have to happen? 4951

Yikes! I'm so scared to let my 8-yr old son on the trails, on his bike, without me (even if he's with 10-yr old friends!). I may never let him now. lolBTW - THANK YOU to the car who stopped to help the girl. I know I often see the kids walking to Creekwood in the morning - and when it's raining, or there's a petite girl lugging a huge saxophone case... I so want to stop and help them. It's sad that I can't, though, bc it's just too scary out there! 4951

  I agree with you.  You can't help kids out even if you're being nice.  I pass a girl everyday walking to & from the high school who lives a few streets over from us.  I'd like to offer her a ride since I'm going to the same place taking my kids to school but I don't want to be considered a creeper.    Thank god for the person who wasn't afraid to help her.                                                                                                                                                                    4951

@Ctl74:

I know what you mean. When I lived in Alaska, I was driving my DD to school a few minutes late. It was winter, so it was cold and dim. Another girl was walking to school, probably a 4th or 5th grader, and I felt bad for her that she was running late too. I slowed down and rolled down my window to ask if she wanted a ride. She started running. She looked so scared. I felt awful that I scared her and felt even more awful that kids have to be scared because of the crazies out there. I was glad, at least, that her parents taught her to be cautious. 4951

That is why I don't walk the Greenbelt, let alone my grandchildren. 4951

Guess I have been lucky I walk/ride the greenbelts all the time and have never had an issue.  I am well prepared though if I run in to trouble.  I try to stick to the more populated greenbelts as well as the ones with homes nearby.    Hope they catch the dude. 4951

@snailb: Have your child offer to her, or go to her house with your child and offer to the parents.

Hmm...my son and his friend ride the greenbelt from Trailwood to Bear Branch twice a week for homeschool activities. I would think that a few dads, cruising that particular greenbelt area for a few days, will send a strong message that we don't put up with that kind of ****. 4951

Looks like one of the news stations is doing a story on this. I saw the KHOU van parked on Evergreen Valley by Shadow Forest. 4951

@HollyHobby: There are already TONS of people walking/ running those green belts everyday. I am one of them- but not today- wanted to get an early start on the yard work. But normally I'm walking the dogs and then running on them between 7-9. Lots of people walking, thrunning and walking the dogs. The girl did right!! The rest of us will be on the lookout- though I am sure the perp has moved on

@snailb:
I have thought the same thing but i haven't wanted to freak the kids out. It seems such a shame that i am driving past some of these kids going to the same school my son does but i cant offer them a ride these days.
