My wife really wants to start it, she was in college but LSC after screwing her over every semester for years put the final nail in the coffin of her associated degree almost 2 years ago now.She wants to work in something that is flexible hours wise to work around our situation and she has always wanted to do real estate, she reads books and watches YouTube videos all the time to learn about it.I was wondering if there is anyone who can give her help and advice on the subject, perhaps anyone with any insight in how to get assistance with classes/exams? I find it crazy that no one has some kind of scheme where they fund your qualification (it really isn't that costly in the scheme of things) and then you are contracted to them for a period afterwards and they take a higher than normal cut of your commission to recoup their investment. She/we are stuck in a cycle of can't get qualified or finish her degree because she has no funding, can't self fund because we don't have the spare income and can't get the spare income because she isn't qualified.I know I asked about jobs before but this is more specific, I know people will judge as they always tend to and I am sure someone will have a problem with something I have said, believe me I have thought about laying out our entire personal histories for everyone to get a little more understanding but it isn't my place. 4951

@CartmanUK35: If she really expects to make money in real estate, she is going to work long hours and weekends. That includes nights when she is supposed to be picking you up from work.The first year or 2(unless she knows someone in real estate and has a leg up), she will mainly be doing the grunt work-putting out signs, taking pictures, etc. I know I have mentioned it to you before, but will again.  Living Social and Groupon often have deals on real estate courses and tests.  You can take the classes and exam for under $400.00.

There are also some real estate schools that will take Financial Aid and grants also. They have classes on nights and weekends too.I know there was one on 1960 somewhere around the mall....maybe on down toward 45. 4951

But the grunt work doesn't require her to be in an office and so she would be readily available to fit in picking me up, that is the point, the flexibility. Sadly the situation with LSC has left her ineligible for further government financial aid at her current level she would have to be doing a bachelors to get any more. Any aid would have to come directly from the company, if we had $400 laying around she could finish her associates anyway!! 4951

@RogueHippEE:

Absolutely! My neighbor just started and she is working night and weekends. That's when most people want to look at houses. You are really at the buyers beck and call.

And since the market is so good, there is an influx of agents in kingwood. My neighbor had to expand her area to spring, woodlands, Klein. 4951

@aggiebutterfly: Our agent-and now my friend-drives from the Kingwood area to Onalaska, Livingston, and where I live on a daily basis.  She starts at 8 and usually is not home until 10pm.  Then, it's paperwork time.  I have started helping her by letting her know when new houses are on the market where I live.  @CartmanUK35:It would be pretty difficult for her to pick you up in the Woodlands when she has a house to show at 430 in Onalaska.  Are her kids at an age where they can take care of themselves for an extended period of time?As for the money-set aside $10.00-15 a week.  The classes are $200.00 online.  Save up again and then pay for the testing.

There just isn't a demand or need for real estate agents in that area-or The Woodlands, etc. 4951

Our kids grandmother is in Real Estate locally and just bought a brand new Lexus so she is doing pretty well.Obviously she can schedule things around getting me, the clients won't know anything other than she has another showing, there is no issue there.As far as saving, first of all 5 months for the classes may be doable, although we there is too much month at the end of that money those savings go out of the window, but you have to take the exam within a certain time frame or the classes become out of date so I don't see how we could financially pull that off anyway.We seriously can never catch a break.  4951

Remember with real estate, even if she is very talented and extremely hardworking, it will take time to build up a business, during which you can expect to have more money going out than coming in.  No one is going to fund the education, because most people don't stick with it, I know several people who got real estate licenses and never did anything with them after a month.  You have to look at this more like starting a business.  I do know one that became very successful over time though,  I don't think the hours and money are what you might expect.I genuinely hope this doesn't sound nasty or judgmental, but becoming a successful realtor will require a lot more work and perseverance than an associates degree.  Those challenges will pale in comparison.  Best of luck. 4951

I don't know what the associates has to do with the work or perseverance required, the problems there all amount to LSC screwing my wife over constantly and nothing more. 4951

@CartmanUK35: Without getting too personal... can't Grandma help her get her foot in the door somewhere? Even if it's lending you the money to take the course and exam?I know up North, the realty companies offer license programs - it's like $200 to take the class (I believe it was 2x a week for 3 months?) and then you take the exam. I actually started the program, but dropped out when it hit the legal stuff - I was young and dumb, and didn't "get it" at the time.

Most part time jobs are going to require hours she just can't do right now.The working from home things we looked into but had trouble telling which were scams and which were legit and some that were required us to get phone lines installed (cost!), have a quiet location (which we just can't pull off with the animals and in-laws). But if anyone has a specific suggestion on something from home it would be great.She won't drive for Uber for safety reasons primarily.In what way did they screw her over... well aside from the administration side being awful every semester.She is three classes short of her associates but she maxed out her allotted credit hours to qualify for financial aid.The advisers didn't advise her of the correct classes for her path at the time so she doesn't have any of the pre-reqs to get into what she originally want to do.Her original biology teacher was a misogynistic ****** who completely ignored the women in his class to the point of not helping them when asked, when she complained the Dean of Science recommended she finish the class even though she couldn't pass at that point rather than drop and then retake it later after taking intro to bio first. That ate into her credit hour allowance right away. She had to take algebra three times to pass, she chose the best teacher each time who then proceeded to leave half way through the semester and stick her with someone who wasn't as able to teach the subject, that ate two more sets of credit hours. That right there is enough to leave her where she is now but there is more. Had those things not occurred she would have her associates already.I would add before anyone assumes she was the problem that she made the Deans list at least 3 times (I think 4 but can't be sure now) and a couple of those times were for Bio related classes, including the one she had the original issue with! 4951
