I can't even get the little base (or button) off. My mirror fell off today, yanking some of the windshield glass off! Went to an Auto Parts store, and they sai, "oh, here, use this little kit with the glue. It's not a big deal!" I think I may have to go to an auto shop to get it fixed!!!! 4951

Technically you don't need a rear view mirror to drive. Duct tape fixes everything. 4951

I've put a couple of these on after they fell off. Both were GM vehicles. Hopefully that is just glue residue and not part of the glass on the button. Clean old glue off the button and the windshield with a razor blade. The button should simply slide off the mirror base. However, there is a possibility of a set screw holding the button on. 4951

If the mounting button pulled some of the glass off with it you're going to need a new windshield. Those glue kits are designed to glue the button to the glass, not glass to glass.A new OE windshield will have the button already installed. Aftermarket cheapo China glass varies, some have it some require it to be transferred. 4951

It helps to hold the razor blade with a set of vise grips. It's probably a little safer as well. That's the way I remove old inspection stickers, too. I'll help if need be. Make sure the button is right side up when you put it back on. I think one end will be slightly rounded. I don't remember if it is the upper or lower end. 4951

If you can't get it done go to a glass place. BinswagerBinswanger ought to be able to do it quickly. 4951
