Yes while gas is cheap, have you noticed how much milk, Bread, eggs, beans is going up. My husband has been a rig superintendent for 12 years. I see him 14 days and then gone 14 days. He is worried about the economy just like you people that don't realize cheaper gas means economical stability. He has had to fire best friends, cut daily cust by 1,000s. The oil/gas industry effect millions of jobs. Please hoop and holler about gas prices where men are gone all the time, worry literally every min is he's gonna be forced to lay off another person. Ok morning rant over! Have blessed day. 4951

@tessie: When oil & gas companies are still reporting multiple billions in profits the only reason people are being laid off is to keep the CEO's high on the hog. Everyone being laid off ought to have understood that they worked in a volatile industry to begin with. Ride the wave when its high, but plan for a drought...

@tessie: We all have to make adjustments.  When the commercial construction industry tanked in Florida, we researched other areas of the country that had booming economies for my husband's field.  I'm a nurse, so I can pretty much go anywhere since there still is and will continue to be a shortage in nursing.  It sucks to have to make MAJOR adjustments in one's life (All of my family is back in Florida), but in order to survive and prosper you have to change.  Not saying it's easy, but that is how life is.

@MTechnique: Now this I agree. You would be surprised how many of these CEO's and their admin staff I see daily showing off their lifestyle and some of their kids attending the same school my daughter attends and they donate money to the school like it was water fountain.

DH paid $1.92 at Chevron in Livingston (59 & 190)... I agree it's a mixed blessing. Low prices are certainly not great for jobs and/or economy in Houston, but those in the industry know that it cycles & it will rebound... just a question of when. "Make hay while the sun shines!!" 4951

@CBP210: Some but not all behave that way. There are a lot of KDCers who are in O&G that are just normal regular people.
