Today is supposed to be lazy mom's day, where moms are encouraged to stop and relax. I don't know any mom that could actually stop, relax and completely rest, uninterrupted, except for evening bedtime, and even then, the only stop late after everyone else is tucked in for the night.

If they stop to enjoy a movie, they end up jumping up to fix snacks, or endless "mom!!!" things. Even if someone took the kid(s) for a few hours, the ones I know would take the time to catch up on things around the house, catch up on work brought home from the office, or doing something for someone else.

Is it possible for a mom to truly stop and relax, just for a day? Has anyone successfully done that? And no, stuck in bed, sick with the flu (or worse) does NOT count! 4951

Yes, I believe there is time. You have to make time for yourself. I don't relax all week but take some time on the weekend to watch some dvrd shows or just chill. It's important for our health. My kids are at an age where they are more independent and they like to relax on the weekend after going going all week long. So I am lucky to have thst. Of course I'm catching up on housework also . 4951

Be careful what you wish for.... I remember those busy days, too, but one day you turn around and it's just the two of you... No more rushing to sports activities or dance classes. Then all you have is the retired husband that doesn't know how to run the washing machine; or how to get to the grocery store; or even what days the garbage is picked up!! 4951

You get to relax ( kind of) when the kids fly the coop. I am lucky enough to have a dd who confides in me and I will always worry about and for her!!BUT that being said I LOVE being an empty nester. I loved every stage of being a parent but this is my fav ( lol I said that about the stages). I can focus on my schedule- do what I want uninterrupted. It's the time you get to focus on you and hubby( if there's one). I can come and go as I please-eat when I want. It's almost like being in college without the pressure of finals. So yeah I'd think it difficult to celebrate Lazy Mom's Day if you still have kiddos at home. The work NEVER ever ends. The hour or 2 I spent in the gym was THE only time I had. Funny - a member told me that exact thing this week- life. Always goes forward! Tell you what - I'll celebrate for all of you busy busy Moms today!! 4951

Just another holiday I'll be skipping. I have never even heard of this. It's fine. DS promised me 2 hours of babysitting tomorrow so I can take a nap. We'll see how that works out. 4951

Like I tell my kids, after dinner time is "my time". I will put on a show that we will all enjoy and watch it until their bedtime (8p on school nights). But it rarely works out that I sit for more than 10 minutes. And even when I do, I have kids fighting to sit next to me or ON me. Or they're just squabbling in general.I've started getting up at 5:30a to have an hour of peace with my coffee before they get up. From there, I go from 6:30a with them, work, school work, errands, house stuff... until about 8:30 when they're finally all in bed. And then nights like last night, I had to go upstairs another 3 times because the 2-yr old was SCREAMING his head off for me. I would leave at least 20 minutes between each visit, but he kept it going strong. I finally gave up at 9:30 bc I was trying to meet a deadline. And while I'm running around making lunches, cleaning up from dinner finishing up homework with the oldest... the other half is sitting on the chair playing games on his phone. OMG it's so dang annoying.Vent, vent, vent. 4951

I think it largely depends on the age of your children.  For me it is not possible with an 8 month old.  If I am out and someone is watching him I worry that he will have enough milk, will take enough naps, etc.  The night where he wakes up in the middle of the night, the following morning after I finish nursing him my husband will take him downstairs so I can catch a quick 30-60 minute nap.  Even this is hard because since he is so young, his playing largely consists of making (very loud) noises and banging on things.  Even with the bedroom door closed upstairs, I still hear him and can't sleep.  Yes, I get "time off" but I can't help but worry, is he yelling because he is having fun or did he bump his head?  Is he hungry already, should I go down?  It is hard being a parent, but I would not change it for anything! 4951

To answer the OP, no it is not possible to get a break 😃 Every morning is like a game with myself. How many times will I have to reheat this one cup of coffee?

I take my time after bedtime. Which often has me out shopping at 9 pm or later, but so be it. I have to get out of the house and away from my kids sometimes. Mine are 4 and 1 so still a long way away from empty nesting. 4951

I do not miss having to be at the beck and call of little ones. Maybe I will someday but not yet. I still have 2 at home but I don't even feed them anymore. So, yeah, I get to relax. 4951

I know I will be crushed when the time comes that I don't hear this, but I would like to get through one episode of SCANDAL or BIG BROTHER without hearing "Mom, I need...."  Those are my shows and it has been ages since I watched one live without the aid of a DVR.  He seems to have "favorite show radar" and it never fails.  We actually have a couple that we like to watch together...for now, until he decides he's too old and too cool for that, or gets a better deal to go hang out with his friends.  Most of the time, those are DVR'd as well.  Oh well, with a teenager, you take what you can get, convenient or not.  4951

@allymansfield: Stop worrying and trust your husband. Even trust a babysitter! I've learned to keep my expectations low with other people - as long as I come home and my kids are alive, happy, and fed - I consider that a win! I pick my battles bc it's a less stressful way to live. While someone may not do something exactly the way I do, that's ok. I've even learned a thing or two this way!
