>> Hey, an old pay telephone! How many remember those? I got in a habit of carrying four quarters with me as a teenage in case I needed to call someone on a pay phone. It's such a solid habit that I still do it today, but I haven't seen a pay phone in a long time.
@Retired_Engineer:
I had an index card in my car with four quarters and the phone numbers of all my emergency contacts. I was taught to just crack the car window and offer the card to the helpful person who would stop and render aide in some sort of situation. Luckily, that card stayed in my car for years and was never used. Good insurance, huh?
@Annie: That was a smart move! With cell phones, I no longer memorize phone numbers (I can't even state my own cell number without looking it up). I've grown so dependent on the phone having all the numbers, I typed out all of my main contacts with their phone numbers on the computer, printed it, then cut it down to size to put in my wallet. Every year or so, I update it (if necessary) and replace the old one.
