had never seen a chipmunk in his entire life , squirrels are every where in our yard & he does notice them & will chase them but he has never caught one.So we were closing the pool on Tuesday & we were getting it ready when hubby noticed something on the basket flap  , when he removed the top a chipmunk swam out into the pool towards the other side where Buddy was sitting , when Buddy saw the chipmunk he was on full alert . The chipmunk seeing Buddy turned around & started swimming back towards the flap , hubby got the net & scooped the chipmunk out of the water & he jumped onto the grass & the chase was on .Buddy chased the chipmunk around & over the patio , around the pool till finally Buddy was able to put his paw on top of the chipmunk & then grab it in his mouth tossing it into the air . When the chipmunk hit the ground it twitched a few times & then died. Hubby put him into the trash can & we thought it was over. How ever Buddy enjoyed the chase so much that he now waits by the pool ( which is closed) . When we make him come inside he waits by the door to get out to look for another chipmunk . We know he is very good at catching critters , last year he caught a mole that was tearing up our yard . Maybe now that winter is around the corner more "critters" will come out to play . 4951
I don't want mine to kill. Unless immediate danger arose.
@beadweaver: with some dogs thats just nature. You can stop it if you see it, you can discourage it but you cant get upset with a dog that kills wildlife. They are dogs first, pets second. Its genetic.
