I am in the need of getting my roof inspected and replaced.  Has anyone had this done recently and or know a good company to use?  Thanks. 4951

Well, there are a lot of opinions on roofers. I used Westco and they did a good job however I would not recommend them do to the way they try to get by with not pulling permits, not telling you that a permit is needed, not supplying additional information when requested by insurance companies and not helping with the HOA approval.  The replacement on my house got red tagged by the building inspection because of no permit however the did not stop working and it took some quick action to circumvent what could have been an ugly situation. 4951

@tatertot58: My grand father replaced his roof a couple of times by himself. Red tag never heard of it.

@friday1: I stood and watched the building inspection stick a red tag on the garage.  He walked away stating the job site was red tagged and work was to stop immediately.  It is in the City of Houston building permit codes.

Neighbor called in. Too many snooty nosey people in KW. You cant get a building inspector half the time to a new construction job. There is over 600 square miles in the city of Houston. Never heard of a permit for a roof job. 4951

I have heard of the HOA making people take off a new roof for the color. 4951

Thank you everyone, getting a new roof is worse than getting a root canal especially with the permits, HOA, cost and who to trust. 4951

Never heard of a permit for a roof job.

@friday1: Falls under the repairs, maintenance category.  I am somewhat surprised at some of the things listed as needing a building permit.  I am under the impression that my roofer was being followed from job to job for other reason thus the reason for the building inspector showing up.  That was just part of the problems with them.

First check with deed restrictions to see if it specifies the brand/type/style/color of shingles to be used.  SWH requires Elk brand; other villages may require a different brand.  Also, do what you need to do with the HOA to get approvals before the job starts as you don't want problems in that area.  I have a nephew who lives in Willow Pointe (Cypress). He put on a new black roof and had to tear it off because the deed restrictions dictate brown as the color for his section.  He went to court against his HOA and lost.Recently I was changing home insurance carriers and new company required a roof inspection.  I had 4 Star Roofing come out for an inspection and ended up replacing all the jacks which were plastic & had degraded over time.  Chris Steudle was who I worked with and during the course of the repairs he had some car trouble.  However, he communicated very well with me during this time to let me know exactly when the work would be finished.  He is a man of his word and I have nothing but good things to say about him and 4 Star Roofing.Hope this helps!4 Star Roofing1962 Northpark Ste A 281-359-7663 4951

We didn't ask permission to get a new roof but we also replaced it with an identical color. 4951

We had West I replace our roof right before Ike. We had zero problems with permits or inspectors. They took care of getting the HOA to approve our color choice after we went down ourselves & they gave us the runaround delaying it over 2 weeks. Again, that was a delay by the HOA because they wouldn't answer us. Anyhow, we were very pleased with Westco.

We have since had two repairs done after storms dropped trees on the garage two separate times. Both repairs were done quickly & within their estimates. Pleased both times. One was the summer after Ike, the other was during ice storms two winters ago. 4951
