After almost 2 weeks of no TV, we are finally back in business (I was fine with this and secretly enjoyed watching the hubs squirm a little before football season - hee hee).  Finally got rid of SuddenLink for cable.  We had THREE DirecTV techs come out to our house to install a satellite. First guy told us we will NEVER be able to be DirecTV customers because we had too many trees around the house.  He started to pack up, and I had him walk around the house with me and explain more.  The conversation got a little heated, and finally he admitted that there were some options.  One was to trim a Crape Myrtle tree back about 20% so that he could access the roof with his ladder (he was going to walk away from the job without telling me this!  wow!).  I asked the guy 3 or 4 times to make sure that this was the ONLY tree that needed trimming.  I pointed out other trees, he said all others were fine.We had the Crape Myrtle trimmed by Yardbirds and rescheduled the install. Then the second DirecTV guy came out.  Showed him the tree we trimmed, explained what the first guy said.... and the second guy said, nope - you need to have all of this other tree trimmed about 30% - a HUGE tree in our backyard.  I thought, wow, this could go on forever.I got a quote for that tree - $260 because a harness was going to be needed for the job.Hubs said let's not cut the second tree, and just have a third tech guy come out and see what he says.Adrian from DirecTV came out, and got us all set up and had NO issues.  He did use a hand trimmer to cut back some small branches (of the second tree mentioned) to prevent some of the new growth from getting in front of the dish in the near future.  He was awesome.  He did access the roof from where we trimmed the Crape, so we're glad that money was not a waste.   But goodness, the first guy saying we'd never be customers.  Hmmmm.I'm not sure if you can request a tech, but if you can this guy, Adrian, is the man!  His Technician # is 430666. 4951

I hope you got written permission from your HOA if you live in one of the KW villages. Ours loves to send out threatening letters on just about any change we make to our vegetation! 4951

@Chrisinkingwood: Hahaha, you have one of the 'good' ones, then.  You're lucky!  Hee hee  ;-)  Yes, we're in a KW village, and if they want to get into our backyard, they are welcome to try... Our tree was not/ is not visible from the street (smack behind our 2 story, and shorter than the house).  We are lucky enough to not have any neighbors behind us.... just more beautiful trees!!  Emoticon  Emoticon  EmoticonOh, the HOAs....  Emoticon

@terilyntx - Did you use anyone to get your $10.00 discount per month yet?  If not, let me know and I will give you my account number so you can get a discount and so can I.We also used Adrian because for 6 years they told us we couldn't have service.  He came out when the house next to me sold and set them up and gave me his number to request him if the tech that came out said he couldn't do it.  That's exactly what happened.  Guy walked up, said you can't get service and went to walk away.  I pointed to the house next door and said Adrian did that last Sunday in a rain storm and they have no issues.  I told him to leave and requested Adrian.  He got it done in no time and we have not had any issues with it...knock on wood. 4951

maybe direct tv needs to train their techies better? oh silly me...that would be foolish when you can spend that money on advertising to try to get customers when your existing customers get **** off because your techies are ****ups... 4951

@dotti573: Hey Dotti,We actually reopened/reactivated an account that my husband had years ago (got a better deal that way) so we are not considered a new customer.  Tried to do the $10 off thing with my in-laws.  Emoticon  Sorry!!  I get a sick pleasure out of getting a deal - so if you know of a way around it, let me know.  Emoticon

@terilyntx: I wish I did.  We got hooked in with the $19.99 a month.  Now my bill with a $10.00 friend discount is $88.00.  Almost ready to switch back to Suddenstink because I got something in the mail for $14.00 a month for a year.I just keep offering to give my account number.  Hopefully one of these days someone will take it and I can get some more money off my bill...lol
